Hi, Quick question regarding the key/locks on a '92 240sx(SE). I only received one key when I bought the car, which operates all the locks. I noticed in the glove box there is a key number(it says 'NOTICE: take off this label before delivering to a customer') with a 4-digit number. Is this for re-ordering keys from Nissan? Also, is there a valet key option for this model? I'd copy the one I have for a spare, but it is pretty worn(I have to jiggle it to get it to work).

Thanks!-Jamie

yes it does sound like that is the key code for that car. Basically a key code is what you tell the computer-run key cutting machine, so it knows what key to cut. But then again it might not be. As for the valet, not sure you may want to get a hold of a service manual for that one

It is the key code for your car. Take it to the dealer. They might ask for proof of ownership.I think the valet key is worthless. Even though the hatch/trunk can be locked to prevent using the inside release, the seats fold down in both models.

I agree. In my little brother's SUV, there is a valet key that only opens the doors but not the back hatch. And there isn't even a hatch cover, you can reach in from the back seat.

On my other ride (the non-nissan), you have to have a key to drop the seats, so there it makes some sense.

Yah now that I think about it, a vallet key would be pointless. My Honda is how you described-requiring the master key to lock/unlock the rear folding seat...

Cool, thanks for the responses!-Jamie

when I got my first 240 all I had was the valet key. I didn't even notice for a few months. I just couldn't open the trunk from the outside. The guy I bought the car from said the key he gave me was an original key. it was different from the other 240 keys I have seen, it was all brass and didn't have that black plastic on the back.

Whatever you do, try not to make a copy off a copy of a key. I did that and I have trouble opening my trunk sometimes.
