Sounds like you need to get busy real soon on another engine. Also, check your brake booster to make sure the master cylinder isn't leaking into the booster. If brake fluid gets into your booster, then it will be pulled through the vacuum line into the intake. This will cause blue smoke in the exhaust just like you were burning oil. But I think you are just burning oil. How often do you have to fill it with oil?

Ca18det's are pretty old motors, and most likely you are getting lots of blowby. Just my opinion.

top stuff for that link speedeast :dblthumb:
2 days ago i gave the car a oil change as when i checked the dip stick some dozy pr*t had filled it up double with oil ? like this when i got it
any way drained the oil out and it was very runny but no smell of fuel good sign
but it was blowing oil out of the dip stick befor i drained it due to over filling it just checked the old turbo and there is loads of play in the shaft and also YOUR LIKE THIS the previos owner had put a t28 turbo on it BUT for some reason it had been WELDED to the manifold so it could be the turbo what caused it to smoke as when it was welded it could of melted the rubbers in the turbo and the smoke left could be whats sat in the exhaust just burning off? i hope anyway  some one has told me to clean the idle control valve ? where is this what does it look like and how do i clean it sorry for being so dum but i have had no dealings with jap cars before

The turbo wouldn't have gotten hotter when welding than it does when the car is running. If you ever temp gun your turbo that will get over 700 degrees F' at idle.

Sounds like you may have multiple issues though. Check compression, then start replacing things. if you have a lot of shaft play then the turbo would be a good place to start.

I think everybody misses the point.

He wants to know how to swap to an SR20, his engine of preference.

Oh yeah haha whoops.

Swap is cake. Stock mounts, KA or SR im not familure with the CA18 but I would assume it uses the same as well. The wiring is very simple. Everything is so well documented online that any issues you are having are easy to find.

it shares the same mounts. theyre all the same car. just make sure all the pins for the dash plug mate up the same i.e. tach to tach, speed to speed ect. if u want another ca for simplicity tho i have a spare motor. fresh rebuild, no turbo tho. the 2860 went on my current ca :chuckle: also if its a ca in the car youll need to wire up consult as ca does not support consult and sr does. idk why u wouldnt want the ca tho, i love mine. even when it was stock with a red top sr t25 on it i made 248whp, 227wtq on 10psi with just the usual i.e. fmic, turbo back exhaust, safc to calibrate in my n60 maf and that was it. not too shabby for a little 1.8l in stock form

to me it sounds like u just need to re-do the head. get an oem ca18det head gasket set and arp studs (need to be replaced after use so get good ones lol). itll be cheaper than an sr and itll make excellent power. i just dont care for the sr to much coz ive seen what happens when rockers jump off the lifter and stoppers arent advised for stock lifters coz they can actually damage the lifter over time. maybe they work for some people but 2 separate times ive seen a nightmare. plus if u drift, at high rpm the waterpump likes to start to cavitate and could result in overheating. an underdrive pulley can stop that but just like my friend who had the 2 head nightmares now overheats when stopped from the underdrive pulley
