hey, i've never been good at diagnosing electrical problems... so i was wondering if anyone could give me a place to start.

i was replacing a blown tail light in my hatch (89 SE fastback) and heard a pop. i'm not sure where it came from, but i distinctly remember hearing a pop... possibly from the hatch area after that some odd (and slightly annoying) electrical issues have come up...

when i push the brake pedal, the dashlights/exterior running lights come on (the dash lights come on dimly) even if the headlights are off.

if i hold the brake pedal down and turn the headlights off, the lights turn off, but the popup headlights stay in the up position until i lift my foot off the brake pedal.

the tail lights look like they're always on when the headlights are on, but they do get SLIGHTLY brighter if i push the brake pedal.

It sounds like i've blown a fuse or relay, but i'm not quite sure where to start. if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be awesome.

thanks for your time.

your getting back feed in the system from the brake light circuit. first check your bulb install. you could have put it in incorrectly. on some nissans there is a tail light control module. the pop you heard could have been from that unit since it is located in the rear of the car. check the bulb install and the socket its an for any obvious damage first
