Just a little while ago, I was in the process of moving my car onto the driveway when I noticed I couldn't release the e-brake. I pressed down on the button but it seemed stuck. I had to remove the entire emergency brake handle and noticed that a small piece (metal bracket with teeth) had fallen off. I was able to put it back into its place but somehow it still feels flimsy. My question is....how hard is it to swap out for another one (entire e-brake mechanism). From the way it looks I have to remove the entire cable from the rear discs....correct? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

it's not hard. when you pull the console, you'll find a 8 or 10mm nut holding the rest of the cable that runs to the driveshaft tunnel and splits off to other cables that pull on the rear calipers. It's not bad, just probably alot of crap falling on your face while you're down there.

Did you tighten it down enough by any chance?

I was able to remove the e-brake mechanism from the car (2-12mm bolts). As for tightening the cable itself, I tried but like I stated in the original post, the small metal plate/bracket keeps coming off. One other question....do I have to remove the entire cable all the way to the rear disc or can I remove it at the splitter underneath the car?

yeah you can remove the splitter from under the car. undo that nut at the ebrake handle and push the threaded part through

Good news everyone...I went over to my buddy's house and he tack-welded the plate & mounting bracket together. Now the e-brake works like a charm. Thanks for your comments and info everyone.
