S13 Digital cluster: tach, speedo not working - suggestions?

I recently purchased a Digital Cluster for my 240 vert, after i got it connected and installed i found that the speedometer shows for about 10 seconds then fades away and that the tach doesn't work at all.

Do you guys have any suggestions on what i can try to fix it? I have read about the capacitor fix adn will try that but only if someone knows how to get the tach to start working. it's kinda pointless to fix the speedo if the tach won't work.

man i work at a dealer and really the only way we try to fix those damn things is to replace the whole thing. i coverted my 89 max from digital to analog and it wasn't too bad, cut the connectors off with the analog gauges and match wire colors...its always an option but those digital dashes will haunt you for ever.

actually i would think its pointless to get the TACH working without the speedo? you can always get an external tach or just listen and dont over rev atleast youll know how fast your going so as NOT to get a ticket..... i think the speedo should be your main concern

I hear ya but at the same time it just looks bad to have a dead gauge, esp one that is big, bold and the center of attention.

Anyway, i'm thinking it might be possible to transplant the tach from my analog cluster to the digital one,.. i'm gonna try the soldering iron trick tonight and see if that works,.. if it does i'm gonna try the transplant surgery,.. i'm hoping for the best.

if u havnt done anything yet i would have a mechanic check it out it may be the compasator those things r notorious for going out

are you sure you bought one from a dual cam engine? cuase the DE and E tachs are not interchangeable.. and the speedeo fading on and off is a fault in the display unit you can try and have it repaired.. doing the capacitors.. but really you would 0probobly be best to get another one..

I actually like the opposite, having just a tach is better because you can deterine how fast you are going at certain rpm's and ata certain gear, and you know you wont bouce rev everytime you race or do anything. But thats just what i've been rocking for this last year

The reason ur tach doesnt work is because the cluster u got is from a soch, i had almost the same problem except my speedometer didnt even work at all, but the gauges for temp and fuel worked.
