s13 dies at high rpm?

I just picked my my 89 s13 coupe last friday. Its got the KA24E motor with 5 speed. Its also got the infamous non working HUD. When I rev the motor up above 5500rpm the motor seems to die. I have to downshift in order for the car to 'come alive' does anyone have any inputs on what I can try to do to fix this? Just keep saving for a swap? I tried making a video of it with my phone and here is a link. Its kinda crappy because i was holding it while getting onto the highway but you can see the tach and hear the engine. http://s1018.photobucket.com/a...3.flv Thanks to all help and ideas

never seen that happen. could be an ecu problem. try swapping one out then go from there.

possibly but every bad maf i ve ever seen limited the revs to 3 grand, sounds like fuel isnt getting there. awesome sig btw uberck.

Check your ECU, MAF, and speed sensor.

Is your speedometer working?

my speedo doesnt work. ive got the infamous non working HUD...but my odometer still racks up miles. i cleaned my MAF, going to look into the speed senser when i can get it back into my buddy's shop

check your alternator wiring/ground. Are other electrical systems working fine? This happened to me the other day...cept i want getting over 2.5k. Wire came off the alternator (was cut by previous owner).
