Within the next two weeks, I will be fabricating a set of tension rods for my S13. The stock bushings have finally given out, and the front end shimmy is terrible. With access to a machine shop, I've decided to fab up a set since it came out to be cheaper than just buying a set.
Just wondering if anybody had any input on anything they found was convenient/incovenient on what existed in the market already. I don't plan on running brake deflectors...
Here is my proposed setup:
- 6061 T6 Al or 7075 Al for the main shaft- QA1 hex double adjuster (male-female with LH and RH threads)- QA1 Teflon-Kevlar lined race rod-end (unsure of which yet, but they will run me about $40/end)- Seals-it rod end seals- stainless steel spacers between the rod ends and tension rod bracket
Total comes out to around $100 and would be comparable to SPL tension rods.
As the fab process begins, I'll post fabrication drawings and part links for the rest of you DIY'ers.
