the clutch pedal on my 1990 240sx will not depress the master cylinder plunger. i can press the pedal hard enough to bend it and i get nothing. my thought is the master cylinder has locked up. could it be the slave or maybe even the friction plate itself stuck? has anyone else had this problem?

take the clutch slave cyl off(two 14mm bolts iirc) of the trans and see if it you can move the pedal(dont press down fast or hard) if you can its something in the trans. if not its something in your system.

okay i removed the slave from the bell housing and still get no movement from the master cyl. now when i took the slave away from the throwout mech, the rod that disengages the clutch seemed to be loose inside the boot (it would move side by side) Is that normal?

so i have isolated the problem to the hydraulic system. any ideas on what component it would be or should i just plan on a new master and slave cylinders?

if you're gonna replace one of those parts, dump em both and get that nailed at the same time.
