Okay guys I am not sure if that is what you call this thing or not. It is the little thing down on the frame rail that the clutch line passes through. Now what is the purpose for this and are there any benefits for removing it? I thought that I saw a guy say that he had removed this on his car in a thread that I read a long time ago, but he didnt say why. So have any of youguys done this modification? And if so what is the reason? As always any input is greatly appreciated.

very good low buck mod to do. give great feedback from the clutch. get the line from here

cant remember if its the one for the fc or fd though man.... hopefully someone will chime in (cough) buud (cough)

should take about 30 min or less to do, provided you can bleed your clutch in a timely fashion. i did a write up around here somewhere. cheers

you do not need a special line, you can do it completely free. that line from k2rd is just for the slave to the hardline bracket, its not longer. you can keep the stock rubber one but the stainless is better. heres a writeup on how to do it on a 180sx... its the exact same on a 240.

Yeah, I'm in the middle of taking my transmission off and replacing the clutch, flywheel, and also replacing master and slave cylinders. So while i was down there i decided I too would bypass the clutch dampner.

bad idea... i cant get the hardline going from the dampner to the rubber hose to unscrew, and i now have a VERY stripped nut stuck on that connection. So i am now forever doomed to have the stupid dampner on my car unless i can manage to get ahold of another connection, so i can just cut that damned hard line from the dampner to the rubber hose off and connect the rubber hose to the main hardline with the new connector.

oh well :(

So yeah, if you decide to do this, its VERY VERY simple, and FREE :D but beware the stuck nut. Penetrating oil did nothing to save me :(

Aha! Thanks guys. Thats what I thought the case was, but I wasnt absolutely sure. I noticed that there was a lot of play in my pedal and that got me thinking about this mod. I knew that everything with the car was okay because I have already replaced the clutch, both the master and slave cylinders, and the rubber hose during my last transmission replacement. (darn those noisy mainshaft bearings) Well, I shall post a followup later after I mosey my lazy butt under the car to perform the mod.

Mine was already removed.. I don't see it down there o_O

But i've also got R134-A refrigerant in my system instead of R12...

If the nut is already stripped out, why not just try using a pair of vise grips. Ghetto way to do it but you can't really do any more damage.

well... yeah i might be able to do more damage. If the thing breaks half off and i no longer have any means (within my capability) to remove the rest, then im stuck with a non-working clutch system, or if, say, the reason its so tough to remove is cuz someone else stripped it before i owned the car, then placing the main line into the connector may again leave me with a non-working clutch system, or a very leaky one at best.

So for me... im just going to leave the stripped nut on there as the only damage its doing by being on is looking stripped.

but oh how i'd so love to perform this mod. I hate excess baggage and intend to remove all excess from my car some day.

if that happens, get a new hardline, they are cheap.

aw hell. I went ahead and did it.

Robogrips saved the day :D

I was able to actually disconnect the main line and the line from dampner to the soft line. it took a HELL of a lot of muscling but with the sharp teeth on a robogrip, it worked.

However the nuts are now VERY munched up, and ONLY turnable via the trusty robogrip....

oh well... it gets the job done. Just gonna have to wait till i finish getting my transmission back in to see how well it actually went :P

Okay, so I got to working on my car sooner than I thought. I performed the mod this afternoon and it went perfectly. I must say that this is probably the easiest and cheapest mod I have ever performed. I am pretty happy with the results but I do have to get used to the car driving so differently. Thanks guys !

have you noticed that the clutch engages up higher? i've just done an auto/manual swap and i left the damper out of mine too.

i've got the pedal adjusted all the way out and it's engaging right at the top.

yeah, mine engages at the very top. I am sure that is going to be normal for the system because the slave cylinder is now moving much farther when you push the pedal, so less pedal movement is required to disengage the clutch. the damper really absorbs a lot of the pedal movement I have found.

yeah, i was afraid i was preloading the system, but I'm starting to prefer it up higher, i can just flick the clutch now and it's fully disengaged.
