what are the cloth panels and seats made of? 100% polyester, nylon, mixed, etc?

reason being: im going to dye my seats black and if theres any leftover, maybe the panel trim and glovebox. the bottle told me not to dye anything 100% polyester or nylon. i wasnt too sure where to find any specific label on the seats to determine what material its made of. any help would be appreciated. thanks!

thats kinda odd.. because polyester takes dyes better than any other type of material.. (this coming from a clothing manufactuer, should be the same all around)

the brand of dye i bought is called "Rit Liquid Dye". the directions in the back specifically say:

Use one bottle for two pounds dye fabric. add one cup salt to dyebath for cotton, rayon, ramie, linen, or blends. Polyester or nylon blends dye lighter. Not recommended for 100% polyester, acrylic, or fabrics with special finishes, rubber backing, cold water wash, or labeled "dry clean only". if in doubt, test dye a swatch. NEVER POUR DYE ON FABRIC. Wear rubber gloves. RIT will stain plastic, fiberglass, or worn porcelain tub. use RIT color remover before dying to lighter or different color. wash dyed items separately in cool water. for dark or bright colors, double dye in quantity.

i absolutely have no idea on how to use this thing. do i just simply spray it on and wash in cold water when im done? and since im dying what are already GREY seats, can i just spray the dye on it completely without having to use color remover?

that Rit stuff is a mess... never used in on car seats so I really do not know how to tell you to apply it. The other problem is how to wash it after the fact. like if you dye a regular piece of cloth and machine wash it you gotta do it a few times because color will keep washing out of it. The stuff will even stain the inside of your washer... I'd be affraid I'd get in the car one day when it was raining then have my wet clothes pull some of the left over dye out of the seat. I'd put a lot of thought into this one before I started on it.

Dupli-Color Vinyl and Fabric spray paint. You can get it from Wal-Mart, Pep Boys, pretty much anywhere. It's $4-6 a can.

But the "SEARCH" function is free. Good Luck.

I did almost the entire interior of my car (blue interior, don't ya know?). The only thing I haven't gotten around to yet is the carpet. I used the flat finish on the vinyl, because I figured if it was too dull, I could go over it with gloss, but it was fine. I also did the leather S14 seats I installed later, and I haven't had any issues yet, but to be honest, I haven't had occasion to drive the car for any long period of time yet, either. If you decide to go that route, make sure that you use three to four coats, and check it out in a lot of different light before you consider yourself done with it.
