*I'm going to apologize ahead of time for possibly re posting or grammatical errors.*im 17, and know the basics about cars due to my step dad being a mechanic. although he has yet to figure out this problem. SO,I got my s13 a lil over a year ago on top of the fact its already an amazing car, its my first one. so all of u can understand how much i love it when i first got it. it had about 182k miles on it so obviously it needed a tune up.( its an AT dunno if that will make a big difference)I did the typical things and necessary things it needed to run right (new radiator, distributor, plugs, two or three injectors, wires, couple of sensors, fluids... ETC.)Ran great along with typical problems until about 3 months agoMy problems:#1) Sometimes my car wont start , ill turn the key and nothing. won't even turn over.-So i figured it was a short so i would manually start the car by touching pliers to the Ignition box or something, i figure this is some how grounding it?. (somethin my step dad showed me)- So to fix this problem (this is hard to explain sorry if u don't understand) my step dad made some what of a reverse kill switch for when my car wouldnt start by key. i flip the switch causing the starter to turn to get the car going, leading us to the next problem.#2) The starter is turning over but it dose not "Start". It tries to start but kinda putts and sputters and shakes ALOT, actually the more it shakes the closer i knew i was to starting it.- So to deal with this i would floor it witch would work 90% of the time, BUT along with that it turned into another problem. flooring it sucked up alot of gas, so i tried a number of solutions: replaced fuel pump, fuel filter, catalytic converter, possibly more my step dad dose most of Manuel labor w/o telling me, i even put fuel treatments in it witch caused it to mess up more sometimes.- Also this starting problem occurs more often when i have below 1/4.#3) when i do get it started when i hit stop signs/ lights it bogs causing me to have to floor it in order to keep it from dying, which don't always work. Along with when i take off, stop sign/ light on hill = Nightmare. hills causes it to wanna mess up more to.- To prevent this problem i am forced to drive with both feet when i have to slow down for a turn *Sometimes i avoid slowing down by doing a lil drifting =D* or stop- OH! it also tends to die ,once i get it started, when i switch it from park to Drive. making me have to again floor it to get it going.

I think that about covers it, once i get moving at a crusable speed i dont have any problems. What could be my problem? any suggestions would helpP.S.- Even if u cant help thx for reading *first thread*

all of what Ignoble said are possible. But the fact that it wouldn't crank means you have a definite ignition problem. That reverse kill switch is bypassing the problem with the starter, but sounds like there are more of them.

It sounds to me like you may have a bad point in the harness, where it got pinched or stretched or something. These are old cars and the wiring in the harnesses are pretty brittle, and under chassis flex that can break. I'd do some continuity checks, start on the key switch on the steering column and make sure you have 12V from the battery and ground, and then check the other points and see if what there supposed to get power to are getting it. (you will prob need the wiring diagram for this).

Doing that you should be able to at least tell where the problem with the starter is. If the problems with the engine running right are electrical, good chance its problems with the wiring and in the same place the problems with the starter are.
