Yes, I searched, no I didn't really find much.

I now have a set of '91 cams to put into my '96 motor. This is a project I am going to tackle the next time I have two days off in a row so if I run into issues I will have time to properly work them out.

I have a '93 service manual but I am not finding out much about how to remove/reinstall the cams. Taking the cams out of the junkyard car was no big issue because we didn't have to worry about being careful. :) But obviously I need to do things right on my own....so....

If anyone has done this before, feel free to offer up your advice. If there is an online tutorial anywhere, point me in that direction.

When I do it I'll be taking pics and posting a step by step how-to, but in the meantime, I'm up for tips. :)

Thanks.

just loosen all of the lifters, remove the cam gear, and slide it out. grease it up a little before putting it back in.

curious question. Everything has a torque dimension. Well how do you measure it? I mean if something says torque it 30lbs or wahtever, how do you tell? Just guess?

Well you should use a torque wrench set to 30 or whatever you need... as you are tightening the nut, the wrench will break loose at the desired torque and you will not be able to tighten any further.

Btw, what is the interest/gain in putting s13 cams into an s14?

I did the JWT cams on my car, and I tried to detail the install (and problems!) a little bit.

Check out:

CAM install

Hope that helps. Remember - MARK THE CAMS AND CHAIN!!!

I listed out a good way to do it in the "all motor" section a few times. Just make sure you mark both just incase and zip tie the sprocket / gear to the chain upon sliding it off of the cam.

A few helpfull pointers; even though they are used I put assembly lube on the lobes and journals pre-installation. I even put lube on my 248 exh cam when I took it out and placed it in the intake side, while going from 240-248 to 248 - 232 (reasons and steps are in all motor too). Also even though it says pre-torque all journal caps in order to a set force, go in a 1/4 to 1/2 turn increments back and forth from the center out of each cam untill all the caps are seated. This will take a bit of time but it will remove almost all the risk of shattering a camshaft.. And believe it or not, it does happen and a nissan tech friend of mine has done it on a qr25 :)

Another thing, if you push the tensioner all the way in (best to have 2 people for removal / install as it makes things much easier btw), all the oil in it will come out, of course. When you get everything back together and start her up it will make a nasty sound as it refills with oil. You can remove the fuel pump fuse and manually crank it for a few if you dont want to hear that sound :)

Oh and dont forget that you are doing only an initial 10in/lbs torquing and talk and keep turning and talk and keep turning till you hear a massive "click" :) First bolt I put back on the first journal I busted off in the head as I spaced out for a bit, and um it took longer to fix that then the whole job plus some....

I want to crack my head open again and reverse install the 240 cam on the exhaust side giving me a non re-pinned 248-240 hehehe Then go finally for a non pined 248-248 setup so that Ill have tried every stock config other then 232-248 ( ive done a 232-232, 240-248, currently 248-232, and need / want to do 248-240, 248-248)....

Have fun :)

edit: if you need a picture (might be a bit dirty though :) )of the cam install from the 96 fsm with specs, let me know and Ill host if for a cpl of days.

hey i have 2 248 degree s13 exhaust cams in my hand right now and im about to tackle this install, i read you have the move the intake side of the cam gear 4 teeth to the left, that way i wouldnt have to repin the cam. Basically, im aiming to make the cams so they both point in opposite directions right (while cyl 1 is TDC)?

i printed out the jwt cam install guide, so that sould be a big help. Did any of you have any problems with the shims btw?

TnxMax
