as far as i know, you have to set the intake cam at 4 degrees (don't remember if advanced or retarted), the rest is easy stuff, take out the valve cover, the cams, when puttin'em, put some lubricant(or grease) so they don't just heat up in there. and remember, set the timing right(ya don't want to have to replace a head like what i gotta do, believe me, its a pain in the (yeh, that) to change a head cause of bent valves cause of bad timing).

I'm here, it's cool...

That's only if you're using 2 exhaust cams...

If you use the S13 stock setup...one intake cam, one exhaust cam (240/48), then it's plug-and-play.

Be careful with the cam timing...I usually ziptie the timing chain to the gears so it can't slip. Shim thickness isn't a problem when you change stock cams for stock cams..the base lobes are so close it's a non-issue.

Otherwise, it's remove and replace. Follow the FSM reccomended cam removal (it's a bolt loosen and tightening sequence) as not to sanp the cams in 2.

Enjoy!

If it is a 96-98 s14 you will be missing the last cam towers so you will be squirting an excessive amount of oil out the rear oil ports. Make sure you throw a couple of tacks on those holes or plug them up some how. Do a search on here for the cam swap. It is here and I used the info I found here when I did mine.

Also you rotate the exhaust cam on the intake side 4 teeth counter clockwise. If you get a chance download the JWT pdf for the cam swap. Very detailed with pictures.

yeah whats up with that. i havent heard anything about that when swapping cams. please go into detail as to why the s13 cams dont bolt down with all the s14 locations. i want to go with two s13 exh cams in my s14 and need some detailed info. can you remove the chain links to break a gap in the chain to take the cams out or what? and with using the exhaust cam as the intake cam, you position the timing mark 4 teeth counter clockwise compared to the stock timing mark on the stock cam? and leave the timing on the actuall exhaust side the same?

I have some S13 cams laying around. They're actually still installed in the S13 complete head that I have. I gotta replace my valve cover gasket, thiking of just swapping those cams in. So, the shims should be a non-issue eh?? Well, that makes it alot easier, I'll probably check the lash anyway just to be sure. What's up with the oil squirters? Never heard of that problem.

This is only on some '97-98 heads.

Not true at all for any '96 models...

Then you should be fine. I have a 95-96 head on my car now and it fixed the problem. You won't have any shim issues and as long as you follow the JWT pdf exactly with the exception of rotating the cam gears on the intake side four teeth counter clockwise you will be fine.

Cool deal. As soon as I get some $$ for a quieter exhaust, I'll probably install the cams. Ugh, gotta find a job first....darn economy.
