Hay guys, have an S13 (4stud)bought 300zx 4pot alloy callipers and skyline 4stud rotors.

Problem is the calliper sits too far in and forces brake disc to sit crooked.Has anyone came across this problem? i'm thinking about spacing the calliper out with a thick washer. What have other people done to solve this problem ?

Help Would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

someone please help this man out, this is the same problem I am having with 300ZX rotors and calipers (both 30mm, the mounting bolts actually touch the rotor when fully tightened, maybe a spacer is needed??)

What about using a mildly shorter bolt instead of washering it?

ok, my problem has nothing to do with the bolt.the whole calliper sits inwards too much, towards the engine. causing the caliper to push the rotor inwards where they contact and outwards on the opposite side of the rotor.

if his is like mine then I dont think that is going to work. It seems like it is c*** eyed, when you put any torque down on the caliper, it binds the rotor. This is with no pads in place. it binds against the groove where the rotor passes through in the caliper. almost seems like it needs a washer on the top only in order to keep it straight. Maybe a worn lock washer is to blame?

Edit his is not the same as mine, I will get pics when I get some time off...

yeah I need pics too.

but yes the rotor is binding with the calliper where it is meant to pass through and NOT touch. lol. would I need to precisely space it out enough or just space it out enough so the rotor isn't rubbing on the calliper and the pistons will find their own centre with the rotor, correct?

Has anyone taken an inner and out measurement of the calipers and discs? I know its seems obvious but it sounds like incompatible parts are being mixed. Such as a 26mm caliper and a 30mm rotor or vise versa. Also aren't some skyline brakes 32mm?

on mine, the discs are 30 x 280 (stock size for Z32) and the calipers are aluminum 30mm. I know for one the bolt is too long, need a shorter one for some reason (but only on the top of the caliper) the bottom is fine. The rotors are brand new (not warped, or anything) the calipers are rebuilt (by me). there is no contact what so ever with the pistons yet, and there are no pads in it. Once I tighten the caliper down, it siezes. if I slowly back off, the rotor starts to turn with the decreasing pressure against it. I dont get it and its bothering me.

Sounds like you have either the wrong rotors or the wrong calipers. This should bolt right up whether it is s13 or s14...you have to remove the dust shields though.

Since the Skyline calipers are made to accept a 294 x 32mm rotor, I am going to say its safe to assume there is no way I have skyline rotors. The groove that the rotor passes through is around 31.5mm (No vernier calipers to measure, just a machinist rule) The rotors are 30mm exactly. Maybe the "hat" size is off on the rotor, causing it to sit further inward or something, I dont know.

Oh and Stevie, I am sorry for jacking the thread.

ended up lathing up some spacers for the calipers (6mm wide). Rotors rotate freely now and car ACTUALLY moves by itself, whereas before it was completely locked up and even the engine could'nt move the car. Haven't test drove it but all should be good!I've ran into my second problem though, brake master cylinder = too small.Car was originally ca18de RHD. can anyone confirm if a 180sx sr20det BMC is an upgrade in bore size? I shall start a new thread anywho!

Cheers.
