Hey guys, does anyone know (on the rear pads of a 92 s13) what the bumps on the backing are for, and which of the 3 and 1 bumps are inner and outer? And on the front pads, does it matter if the low pad indicator should go on the top or the bottom? Thanks guys.

anyone have an idea, or can check their car's rear pads to see how many bumps are on the outer rear pad (1 or 3)??

bumps on the backing? there is the pad and then there is the little thing that slips over it to minimze sound or whatever that thing does and then thats it? its pretty self explanitory, not trying to be mean, everybody was new at one point, just take a good look at the set up it will come together for you

no I know how they go on, the inner and outer pads (rear) have either 3 or 1 bumps on the backplate. I put my new pads on the same way I took the old pads off, but I had some problems with the pads not making full contact with the rotor, so I wasn't sure if maybe the previous owner or someone had mixed up the inner and outer pads, and maybe that was causing the problem...

huh. that sounds odd, i dont think the inner and outer differentiate from eachother much... the wear indicator thing i usually put on the outside and the blank one i put on the inside

they were blead properly? thats the only think that i could think of to make it have partial contact unless something was warped

hmm.. I guess your pad design was different. I just put on hawk HP+'s, but they didnt have a wear indicator on the rears (I guess since they're race pads) and the ones I took off didn't have wear indicators either, just bumps like the new ones. So if yours don't have bumps that would explain why people probably think I'm crazy lol. Inners and outers looked the same, but I was just double checking if anyone knew for sure. Apparently not many people use hawk pads I guess lol. I'll bleed them again just to make sure, cause they don't feel warped. The left rear isn't making contact on the inner 25% of the rotor for some reason.

haha my friend has hawk hp+ rears, i didnt have anything stick out in my head about putting them in, we did a huge build this last weekend and we swapped those and i didnt see anything out of the ordinary

could always switch them around as a test to see if that does it?

does it always not hit that same 25%? cause usually a warped rotor would do that but then have a huge contact to the pad then little contact the more its turned and stuff, like a blade comming around and taking swipes out of the pad type deal

Ya its always the same 25%, no swipes like it should look warped...its a rebuilt caliper, but i didnt notice the problem before, so I guess Ill switch the pads around and see how that works.
