dauntless, you said that if using an S14 DET, the VVL function has to be ripped out, if going for high horsepower, in what ways can VVL be overided. I'm trying to decide if I want to use a S14 DET or a S13 blacktop. the basis for this will be a 97-98 240. if I used the s13 motor, i assume i would use a s13 FMIC kit, how does the s13 piping fit in a 97-98 ( does it have to be cut). sorry for all the different questions, but i guess thats what the forum is for!:help

the engine bay will need holes cut with any intercooler kit you buy to run the piping....

you have to use the kit to match the engine, ie. S13 engine, s13 intercooler kit...the intake manifolds are different, so the pipe will not line up if you use a s13 kit with a s14 motor...

some people wont put a s13 in a s14 just because they dont like the idea of it,,,i dont think it matters...the wiring will take some extra time, but no biggy....the s13 is high port flow design is why most high hp would rather use the s13...but if you staying stock youll make more power with a s14 or 15 motor.

the idea doesn't bother me, what is more difficult about the wiring? just use the S13 harness and S13 ECU right? I love my high port BB DET, and I think the high port has some advantages to newer low port, I would not be using the stock turbo very long, so that is not an issue. I'm leaning towards using a S13 Blacktop.( in a 97-98) any problems with this?

nope, thats what i have : )

great motors, low milage, better ecu than the redtops (just minor differences), and high port, just the turbo is kinda crappy, but thats it : )

I think S13 Blacktop is my best option, so what would be the wiring issues if I put one in 97-98?

well the only other thing I hear (Im thinking about doing the same thing) is that it's illegal to put an older engine in a newer car...

course you cant be *too* concerned with legality if you're gonna do the swap anyways I guess. :naughty

well any swap to a motor not produced for the US is going to not be street legal. It doesn't matter if its an older engine or newer engine.

Sorry to get off subject but what is the fine for getting caught with an sr or ca on the street?

How is that helpful? Most inspectors aren't idiots and willl probably be a little less willing to help you after you blatantly lie to their face.

Who's going to inspect your car besides at emission tests? And even then they don't most of the time. What's the biggie?

Here in Cali the cops are in a MAJOR crackdown on illegal races and illegaly modified cars. If they find a riced car, or anything even driven by a teenager that looks fast, they will pull you over and inspect EVERY inch of your car. They have been trained by their agency what to look for, and obviously see that the engine in the bay isnt a ka24e or de that the plaque says it is. Even if you rip it off they will give you a "fix it" ticket for the turbo. If your car comes stock with a turbo, ur expected to go to the highway patrol office or another desigated auto and show them its stock with your car. How do i know all of this? Well after seeing a rash of cars with bodykits on the side of the road and a cop in the engine bay, a article was published in the local paper on the new procedures and the "victory" cops are making over illegaly modified cars.

I was wondering if either the S13 or S14 intercooler kits would work on a S14 chasis with a S13 SR20DET. Because the 240sx that SP Engineering worked on( you know the gold one on the cover of Turbo a few months ago, the one with the T78) had a S14 fmic kit on it, and the motor was a red top. They had to make it fit they said but they used that. I was wondering if both could be used, or which fits better on a S14 chasis?

if mattback lived in cali

id figure a way to make that sr20det valve cover look identical to a sr20de se-r valve color.

id purchase a block that has been ruined or deemed destroyed from a year newer se-r or sentra se so i will have proof that i bougtht the se-r block

id have a set of silvia q's extractors brought over from japan, or i would have a factory turbo relacmeent downpipe made and a heat shielding made.

its only about 3 hours taking your time sipping soda to pull the turbo manifold off in all of its goodness.

so when you go through smog they see an sr20de non turbo and they are like damn you spiderman for doing it right.

heres a question down here in florida we get tons of those greddy carb stickers just posting around, why dont you just put one of those under your hood?
