s13 backup lights not working

you whats up guys . i bought my 90 240 a year ago and it didnt have backup lights working. Ineed them bad cus backing up from my driveway with no warning is a *****. i rewired all the tailight housings. but i just fixed the stop lights and turn signals. what can the problem be. maybe the h2 on the transmission? Is their anything else that connects the reverse light independently?

Is this a manual or auto trans?

Also, was this car a 5 speed swapped car?

If it was a stock 5 speed, test the reverse switch on the trans to make sure its working. If it is, then you need to check the wiring to make sure something isn't busted. If it's bad, replace it.

I had the same problem, it was a blown fuse i think?

On my car it was the switch at the transmission. Wiring was so old and brittle, they seperated from the sensor.Bought a new one at Advance Auto parts for something like $18. Also remember if you do have to replace this, it sits below the fluid line in the transmission.Taking it out is gonna leak out some gear oil so be prepared for that.

im sorry this is a little off topic but what does the sensor in the middle go to? i know the one closest to the motor is the reverse gear sensor, the furthest one back is obviously the speed sensor but what about the middle one?

I actually just fixed my reverse lights, the wire connections to the sensor were bad, i ended up just soddering the wires to the contacts.. ghetto i know but the nearest auto parts store is an hour away and the sensor itself was still good.

you thanks guys for all the help i checked out the transmission connection and yeah it was brittle and broken. I went to my local s13 junkyard YLM motors and they hooked it up. Thanks for the help.
