so I've installed an auto trans in my 89' s13, all the mechanical is allready finished. now for the wiring:( the car is in storage and will be out in a week but what I need to know should be simple(I hope) what do I do for the lower harness wiring? i.e. do I need an auto fuse box, is the green trans control box under the dash pre wired and just a plug it in deal? and anything else that you can think of please. I know an auto conversion isn't a regular, but it's a semi built trans that were going to run at the track. thanks in advance

sorry i cant help, but why the hell would you WANT to swap from manual to auto??????????? people go out of there way and spend stupid money to swap out there useless auto's lol. to each there own. you may need a lot more than you think. on the main harness inside the car you have the computer for the transmission and you also have other wiring for the shifter. keep us updated, i want to see if this works.

im not looking for perfection in any sense, so if there is a way to simply make sure i have a working speedo, backup lights, and the trans shifts correctly through the gears I'll be happy. it just a weekend driver so anything goes. I also do have the automatic doner car at my disposal, and it is complete minus the trans and lower harness.

yes the harness under the dash holds the auto computer that controls all of that. you will need to swap body harnesses. im going on s14 experience, but im pretty sure its the same for s13.

correct me if im wrong, what your saying is I wont have to pull the under dash harness section but I will have to swap the body harness? is the body harness and under dash harness intertwined, or are they seperate? and just to clarify, does the under dash harness for five speed have the pigtail for the green auto trans control box?

you will have to remove the dash, the auto ecu is 'built' into the harness that connects to the ecu. it goes from the ecu all the way over to where the rear harness and the front harness connects into the fuse box. take a look under your dash on your donor car, you should see the auto ecu and a connection that has a 10 mm bolt (maybe 12) that holds the 2 together. this is how your auto works, and it will not work w/o it properly. i didnt have mine tight enough when i swapped my harness out and it didnt shift properly. you have a job ahead of you.

okay, in comparison to other wiring swaps and chops that I've had the pleasure of doing this doesn't seem to be too in depth. thanks for the help, I'll post my progress as I go -kalen
