Hey guys, I've spent an hour or two sifting through search results and decided to post my own topic. Here goes.

We're building a Street Modified Solo-II car out of a 1990 240SX and we're having to look at wheels.

We were thinking Rota Slipstreams in 17x7.5 and running hub-centric spacers, but obviously this is not ideal.

Does anyone know a strong, lightweight, cheap (less than 175 each), autocross wheel for an S13?

We'll be running Coilovers and stock (for now) brakes, but we'd like clearance for Z32 brakes if at all possible (meaning 17 inch wheels are an 'ok' thing).

The tire we're planning on running is a 225/45/17 Falken RT-615.

Input?

Thanks!

youre allowed to run any size wheel and tire in SM, as well as any kind of tire

you want something more like a 17x9 with a 245 hoosier slick, this is what your competition will be running

for SM you probably want a 245 r-comp at least. On a budget you're better off maxxing out an STS set up before you move to SM. That limits you to a 7.5 wheel and a 225 street tire anyway. Good luck

If I had a S13 Id get some light 15x7.5s, and 225/45 Hankook RS2's, fun gearing and run STS.

Thanks for your input... but you didn't even approach the question I asked.. :P

It's ok. Decided to throw caution to the wind and we're gonna go ahead and go with some very wide rubber instead, something along the lines of 275's.

Got off the phone with the local SCCA tech guy and verified that our car won't qualify for SM anyway, so there goes that. E mod here we come.

Should be interesting and fun, if not 'successful' :P

haha yeah i know i really didnt answer your question, but it wouldve been hard anyway, i know guys who run in DSG and SM and most of them are running anywhere from 245s to 275s

to answer your question with relevance to the answer i gave...and also with your decision, 5zigen fn01rc

you can get them in 17x10 +12...which is what youll need to fit a 275 in front, as well as fender tubs, and the +12 might not even clear suspension, but thats the best size short of going custom wheels

Well now youre WAY out of the $175 per wheel range you asked for, even your tires will be more than that.

thats right, i am, because we had a misunderstanding on tire allowances that has since been cleared up.

yeah its looking like the 17x10 +12's with 275's and modified tubs.

gravy

hopefully they'll not interfere with the coilovers, if so, we'll have to do a little fabbin.
