So, I've done some research, and apparently S13's with auto's don't have rev or speed limiters. However, I was going along earlier, not sure how fast cause my speedo doesn't work (I'd say 110 at least) and all of a sudden, my RPM quit climbing.I thought, "Maybe they do have a limiter."I looked in my rear view and saw a trail of smoke, so I pulled over, turned off the car, and popped the hood.Engine was overheating, and there was smoke coming from my EGR or BPT valve(or at least it looked like it was coming from around there.) Nothing serious though. My question is, could it be possible that I have a speed limiter?I haven't redlined it yet, simply because I don't feel like screwing anything up.Also, is that bad if the EGR's smoking? How hard is it to do an EGR delete?

What people mean is if you swap a manual transmission into an automatic 240sx (like I am doing on my 91) and keep the automatic ecu (also doing the same) that there won't be a speed limiter/governor at all. however if you have the automatic transmission and an automatic ecu then yes you still have a speed limiiter/governor

Nah my rev limiter definately works but based on my timing gun it doesn't kick in to about 6800-6850.

To go off on a tangent a little here:Why did the 240sx have a speed limiter? My 96 maxima did not have one with the 5 speed installed. So did nissan think that boy racers would be running up and down the highway at 128 mph with their uber powerful 2.4L lol?

its a safety device to keep ppl from exceding the capability of the brakes to stop the car at speed..... not true but sounds good

yea theres deffinitly a reason why they would place a speed limiter on the car something just wasnt designed on it to go over 110. i dont know what but im guessing its the brakes like jbracy7 said

That kinda makes sense - my 96 max top speed with the stock air box was 120mph and everyone upgrades their s14 to the 95-99 maxima brake setup so I'm going with that they are more efficient. With an injen cold air intake and aftermarket exhaust top speed is pushed up to around 145. And I never had a problem braking at the speed lol.
