S13 Aftermarket Intake Better Than Stock?

I was looking around my engine bay at the intake possibilities and I noticed the stock intake looks like it works as a cold air intake. There are two tubes running out of the box, one leads behind the headlight to suck cold air and the other one leads down to the bottom vent under the turn signal. I guess the second one could act as a ram air of sorts or something. Anyway, would converting it to an aftermarket open cone filter such as an AEM intake or a custom intake where the Battery would be, be any better than stock beacuse now your sucking up warm air?

An even better idea would be to move the battery to the trunk and make a new intake pipe attached to a cone filter. This would drop down on the right side, where the batery was, and would act as a cold air intake plus be much shorter than stock...

removing the intake or changing the filter type doesn't always meen for better. "Mine" is a great aftermarket company known for exploiting stock motors and adding a kick to it by minor mods.

The R34 they changed the turbo turbine and just changed the exhaust sizing. But left the stock air box. The racers commented on it and they all loved how it felt. If i am not going turbo, i am not taking out the airbox.

The duct that goes down under the bumper is a type of resonator. I guess it is there so the engine doesn't make the throaty growl that it does with a cone filter. But the stock airbox is not that bad, the engineers at nissan knew what they were doing. I think that duct could rather easily be converted to a type of ram air thing.
