My S13 was totaled recently and I had a spare engine that I was going to rebuild. But with any luck at all, I'll have an S14 ('95) by the weekend.

My question is... can I still build up the 1993 engine and put it into the S14 ?

I've heard the manifolds are different, but is the block and the head ?

Could I build up the block and the head and then just use the rest from the S14 ? Will everything line up ?

Thanks alot in advance, the S14 I'm buying has alot of miles so I'd like to get her rebuilt soon.

I've heard the distributor is different, does that mean the engine won't work ?

the 95 is obd1 just like all the s13's so you should have no problem swapping it out..

RAAWWRRRR

Not all 95s are OBD1

OBD has nothing to do with it anyhow since I THINK you will be dealing with very different wiring and ecu anyhow. You can build up the S13 engine (as a whole) and dump it into the S14 with minimal trouble.

So your looking to use ONLY your block and head, and use all the S14 accessories and transmission?

Correct... my plan was to rebuild the "long block". Have the bottom end rebuilt with forged goodies and have the head ported, polished and have the valvetrain rebuilt on the side...

And then drop it in, using all the accessories, etc from the S14 engine... manifolds, etc.

I believe the oil pressure sensor outlet is different between the S13 and S14 other than that everything else is good to go.

I have tried and tried to find this "emissions plate" to see if my '95 is OBDI or II but I don't see anything about it anywhere.

Is there anyway to be "sure" that a '93 KA will drop into a '95 ?

just put the s13 head on the s14 block bolts up perfect no prob an you get the best of both worlds. S13 cams on an s14 fuel map.

Thanks but that defeats my plan... I want to build up the long block while I continue to drive my car...

The only distributor difference is that the S13 distributor has an external coil, where the S14 are internal.

i'm in the proccess of putting an s14 KA in my s13, if you do it vice versa your going to have to keep the s14 intake and exhaust manifolds, the 14 distributor i'm pretty sure, and all other crap besides the head and block, because you'll be using your s14 wiring and ecu. and since you just want the head and block i'm sure that will be no problem. also in the back of the head the bolt location thing is different. but this doesn't really matter

Trivial question, but are the valve covers different ?

(I have a nice S13 valve cover)

Yes, it works.

To put S13 motor into S14 or S14 into S13: Use head and block only, use all accessories currently on the chassis.

Differences:

Valve cover (they DO NOT interchange)Distributor (use the one that came with the chassis)Front timing cover (use the one that came with the motor)

Otherwise, S14 intake mani can go on a S13 motor, and S13 mani on S14...but to make it easy, just use the one that was originally in the engine bay of the car recieving the new motor.

Same for exhaust manifold...that bolt on to either motor, but te manis are different, and the pipe that lead to the cat (from the mani) are different for S13 and S14...

Hope that helps - Brian
