I'm pretty sure you can find another manual transmission from a 91-94 or even 91 up transmission KA, and I think you can swap it in. But why bother? Just go for an SR and you should be good to go. You are pretty much replacing everything except for the block itself so why not just go all out. Just my .02 cents opinion.

The SR is not the solution for everything. Why bother with an SR when you have a low mileage KA? A 5 spd swap would cost around $400-$600 for parts. How much is the car going for anyway?

Ok, go fast or go home.

Plus, there is around 350 for the transmission. You also need driveshaft, gauge cluster, ecu, clutch pedal, brake pedal. So if you are lucky, yes, for 600, but **** always go wrong unless you are really luck. So consider yourself not lucky, and can't find it for a good price, expect to spend 800 or more on the swap. If you don't have the money...ok, that's an exception. But if you do, for about 1500 more, you would have a turbo car...but whatever he wants to do it's his choice, I was just giving out my opinion.

For $1700, I say go for it if you have the time and patience to get the 5 spd parts. With the 5 spd conversion you'll probably end up spending around $2200. Maybe you can talk the seller down on the price a little...

BTW, the SR is only a second faster than a KADE in stock form. People with fast SR's usually spend a lot more money upgrading the turbo, manifold, intercooler and so on.

I've talked to 3 people who've done the 5 spd swap on their own. I know 2 of them personally. They all spent around $500 for the parts... I got nothing against the SR, but the guy simply asked if the low mileage KA car was worth getting. Imagine how you would feel if you asked about the SR and some guy tells you to get an RB, KA, or CA.. As for having a turbocharged car, you can pretty much slap a turbo on almost all the cars out there. I don't think the OP ever said anything about getting a turbo, though. It's completely unnecessary to swap a non legal engine in the car when you have a low mileage stock engine that's full of potential.

I would buy it. Hell drive it till the auto goes and then swap it. Unless you really like shifting gears.

I agree the sr isn't always the solution a KA-T is though lol . why dump acouple grand on a new motor and transmission when you have aperfectly good block already don't make much sense to me unless your already dead set on sr

it's illogical to drop an SR when you have a KA that is still good. what if you just swap trannies when you get the other car? that way you can still sell the car you have right now.

I personal would not buy that car. It may have low miles, but its still got age too. With that few of miles it means that it has sat for long peirods of time, which is not the best thing for a car. If you are going to buy it go get a nissan dealership to do a used car inspection(sp).

yeah if i where to get it i wouldn't drop a SR for atleast 80-100k miles. no reason to no use that nice little ka motor. and good point h.h. but still 58,000 and the car is in good condition if it was a 5spd it would be in the driveway. im thinking of just being a h0m0 with an auto trans cuz of this car, what exatly goes into putting a manual trans in an auto? and could a handy hi school kid pull it off in a weekend?

If you have the tools, and all the parts then yes you could do it. The most annoying part is the wiring for the back up lights and stuff like that. I know quite a few people have done this. If you search I am sure there are pleanty of threads that explain it really well.

I would trade my manual setup for an auto. I have a 5spd and I would rather have an auto. I know everybody will flame me for sayign that. If you were near wisconsin we could do a swap. If anyone has a good auto transmission and setup they are looking to get rid of email me.

I know its crazy but all the 240's around wisconsin are manuals. Everybody else wants a manual but me. Oh well I will just have to put a sequential shifter in it! My bf wants to make me a custom shift assembly the kind where you dont have to clutch just shift and go kind of like a paddle shifter in the newer cars.

Oh, one more thing, 240sxgirl, since I converted my auto when I did my SR swap, I had LOTS of extra plugs that wasn't intented for a manual car. So if you want to do an automatic conversion, I don't even know where you can find the plugs unless you found a jackpot in the junkyard. Why don't you guys just trade cars? Anyways, I still have my 95 auto transmission, I think and I live in MN, well, lived since i'm deployed oversea right now, but I should be back in a month or two. It's not good to travel in the winter anyways, not this time at least. Below 50 here in MN, according to my friends, brrrr
