hey, I just got my punk racing big rotor brackets today in the mail, and I will test fit them soon on my s13. I was just wondering if any one else has done this brake swap yet on the s13/s14? if so are the any precautions I should know about or any thing? also how did you like the way they performed? and what BMC are you using? the only write up I found on this kit was on the spl website and that was on a z32! if any of you guys are unfamiar with this kit it uses the 30mm z32 calipers with the 12.8in 350z track rotors for the z32, s13 ,s14 thanks

personally i dont quite understand the point of doing this considering the Z32 calipers do not completely cover the Z33 rotors, the surface area on the Z32 pads match the surface area on th e z32 rotors...i dont understand how bigger rotors help when you can only still cover the same surface area?

maybe someone knows something more than i do

The problem I'd have with this is the cost factor. The Z32 rotors are plenty sufficient for most 240sx applications. The rotors for a Z32 are quite a bit cheaper than the Z33 track rotors. If you mustm you must...but if you must, consider Stoptech Aerorotors for the OEM Track Brembos. The pair of front rotors sell for as much as a single OEM rotor and you end up with a 2 piece rotor instead. And when it comes time to actually swap the rotor again, the rotor sections are even cheaper. Not to mention you get spiral vented rotors which are much better at cooling the rotors. I'll be swapping to these when I need to replace my rotors.

c32c7: bigger rotors have more mass and can ultimately run at an overall cooler temperature. Most 240sx's should not have any issues of brake overheating on Z32 brakes, but the Z33 brakes would indeed be able to handle heavier braking at a track before it shows signs of fade. Probably overkill, but it would only use up a bit of rotational and unsprung mass and maybe make more room in his wallet.

so, it looks like I will be the first to put this kit on a s13! that is kind of a bummer that the brake pad will over lap the rotor a little bit, its no problem though. the reason I am doing this kit instead of the standard z32 brake swap is I want to stop VERY quick and also it will look very nice! and my wheels will not clear the standard z32 swap because of the spoke pattern, it will clear the 350z rotors fine with no spacers. I have a question about the BMCs you guys are using with you z32 brakes are they the 15/16 1 or 11/16 BMC? and how do you like the feel of it? I keep hearing that the 1 1/16 is WAY to firm on the manual booster I am just going to have the front 350z swap on my car with the stock rears for now (I know it will look silly) but some time i plan on doing the rear z32 swap. all right thanks

Better get some nice tires. Typically, bigger rotors wont stop you any shorter. They simply reduce fade and allow you to use them longer before they overheat.

yeah I already got some nice tires. they are Fusion ZRIs in 225/40/17 I got them at my work (a firestone/bridgestone tire shop) for super cheap!! I like them a lot they grip like crazy! I have them wrapped on to some ebay cheapy wheels that are 17/7.5in these wheels are actualy very nice, they weigh just 17lb each which I think is pretty good. and they were under $400 shipped! but because of the spoke pattern they will not clear the z32 brake swap without 5mm spacers, but it will fit the 350z swap perfectly. so that is why I am doing it! I will get some pictures up as soon I complete this swap

werd. tires do all the stopping. rotor just helps fade. no matter how good of a brake setup you have, it doesnt help if the tires lock up and you cant use it to its full potential.

so, does any one have any input on my BMC question? I think I might just go with a 15/16 s14 BMC unless one of you thinks its a bad idea! I dont want a super hard pedal, but not very mushy either. is there any middle ground with these swapped BMCs? let me know!!

I cant give you my experience, as I only had stock brakes. But folks have said to try it with the stock MC, and upgrade if the pedal is too mushy for your taste. Sounds good to me...

yeah I might try this swap first with the stock 7/8 bmc and then switch to a 15/16 or a '1' if the pedal feels to soft. I dummied up the kit today and it looks good! I still dont have the 350z rotors so I just used my stock ones! every thing cleared fine, the caliper is about 5mm from the spokes and about 15mm from the inside edge of the wheel!! it reminds me of a porsche or lambo with the HUGE rotors. I will get some pictures of the finished product when I get it all together, mabye do a write up

you're not the 1st, I have it and I know there shoudl be others too. Have you considered 3000gt brake upgrade? instead?

anyways, it stop goods but it's like 90% braking in the front and 10% ni the back so the car feels like it's playing catch at hard braking. I need to install the z32 rear when I get the chance to even it out

what BMC are you using Loveless? yeah I thought about the 300gt swap but the caliper is even wider then the z32s is, and I didnt want to use spacers or any thing like that. did you do the 3000gt swap or the 350z rotor swap? I thought that the proportioning brake valve would prevent more stopping power to the front if I did this swap? guess not huh!!! guess I will do a z32 rear swap soon then!! how does it fell in just every day driving? thanks for the info

I have the 350z 12.8" rotor swap

stock bmc is good enough for me, I don't need my brake to be sensitive to every little pressure.

3000gt caliper stick out about 15mm, around the same as the 350z track

Loveless you seem to know about this swap being as though you did it to your car. I have a question about the 350z rotors I am wanting to buy some like ebc or brembo rotors but there are 2 different sizes for the track model w/brembo calipers. the first is 322mm wide which makes it 12.677165in wide, so a 12.7in rotor. the second is a 324mm wide ro tor which makes it 12.755905in so a 12.8in rotor I am guessing that I should go with the second one but I am not sure? also the thickness of the 12.7 in is 22mm, and the 12.8 is 30mm will the 30mm 12.8 rotor be to wide for the z32 caliper? I am using the 30mm z32 caliper but I am unsure of the specs of the z32 rotor? thanks for the help!

While this is true on a given axle, rotor size while all else equal can decrease or even increase braking distance. The key is the actual brake torque at the tires gor a give pedal pressure in relation to the other axle. A larger rotor will offer more leverage with a given caliper and clamping force as the caliper will further out from the center. This means you actually get more brake torque using the same caliper and pedal pressure. Too big and you get too much front brake bias. This can actually increase braking distances as the rears will not be able to do as much work as the fronts will lock before the rears can create enough brake torque.

For this reason, I would stick with the OE brake master cylinder first. A larger BMC would only increase front brake torque even further, which would only make the problem worse.

the kit only works with 30mm calipers so the 26mm is not even within discussion

I don't know how where you get the measurement of 12.67" but when I measured the diameter for my rotors, they were around or extremely close to 12.8". I got my rotors for around 150 cash pick up, the guy was nice enough to redrill for me into 4 lugs for fee too since I bought 4 rotors altogether

youll have longer stopping distances but better fade resistance

however youd never even need the fade resistance, so youre basically just getting them so they look better behind your wheels

also, 2mm is nothing, go look at it on a ruler, compared to the rotor being longer than the ruler itself, youd never even know the difference

like loveless said, you need to look at the width to match your calipers, in this case the 30mm

finally, if youre set on getting them, get the brembos, ebc is teh suck

I personalyl didn't get brembo because it's very expensive... if I recall, brembo are around 400$ a pair

Nah, IIRC the entire SPL kit with brembos was 400$. They are expensive though.

Fuzion ZRis are what? 350 treadwear?... yeah, so this kit is completely unessicary.

this is from spl website

SPL 350Z front brake rotor kit for S13/S14 $429 SPL 350Z front brake rotor adapters only $179 that means the rotors (which aren't brembo but powerslot) are $250 (going rate for powerslot anyways)

brembo is going to cost more, most likely

i just checked, apparently brembo doesnt make blanks for the z33

however you still shouldnt get ebc rotors

I just ordered some 12.8in centric rotors that are sold with these brackets I got them pretty cheap and I am just going to use the s14 15/16 BMC for now and switch to a 1 BMC if I ever upgrade my rear brakes
