From what I understand, a true, quality, matte black paint job can cost thousands upon thousands of dollars.

You are better off vinyl wrapping it.

maintenance is going to be a killer if you do it. cars with a good clearcoat and glossy finish naturally resist getting dirty - to a point. if you are planning on a cheap flat job with no clear over it, be prepared for anything and everything that touches your car to leave residue spots. your skin included.

they make flat clears and you can do multiple stages that might hold up better than rattlecan jobs, but what's the point? and seriously, flat black? nobody does that anymore.

call some local vinyl wrapping guys and check it out. i've seen guys diy it and it never comes out as clean as having it done by someone who knows what they're doing. really not worth the cost just to have a flat black surface. do something cooler like matte red or blue or bass boat glitter or tiger stripe.

There is more cost in prep for a wrap than maintenance.

How is the current paint job? Any dings, dents, or compromised clearcoat?

BTW, there are 2 separate NICO vendors that do vinyl wrapping. PhenomenalVINYL = East Coast, ???(Dont remember his name) = West Coast

Yea theres a few dings on the doors and two small dents on one fender and one dent on the other, but other than that the body is good no rust or anything. im having a body kit put on it as well and i live on the east coast.

PhenomenalVinyl is out of Long Island NY. Give him a call, his name is Matt. You can Google his info. Also search him on Vimeo and Facebook to see his more recent work, he is doing some amazing things.

EDIT: I know its small, but three of the cars in the pic in my sig were wrapped by him.

Dings on the doors and dents wont be an issue, but they will obviously show through the vinyl. Clearcoat is the main concern. If there are flaws in your clearcoat, the vinyl can actually strip more clear and paint when removed.

Do u think it would be cheaper just to repaint it with a glossy paint job or cheaper to do the vinyl wrap and how long does the wrap last if covered with a car cover every day?

A quality paint job, fixing your dings and dents, will probably cost just about the same as the wrap. Im not talking Maaco Ambassador package here, a REAL paint job.

Wrap film warranties are usually 3 or 5 years depending on the film used, you would have to discuss that with whomever you choose to wrap it. That doesnt mean that its just going to up and fail on you after a given time though.
