This is a 1992 Nissan 240sx, in Davis California. It has been raining pretty badly the past few days and that ties in with this problem and will be explained later. I had been constantly thinking about replacing the hatch shocks for some time, and I finally got around to getting a set that wouldn't leave me with a bump on the top of my head after getting groceries out of the back. I figured that it would be an easy task, no more than 5 minutes or so. I was off to a good start and got the passenger side rear shock off, and was in the process of installing the replacement when I realized that the pivoting threaded bolt wasn't screwing into the hatch. I looked at the hole and realized that there was NO threads to be found. Apparently, the nut that was supposed to be welded in had fallen out. From that point on it has been a nightmare. My arms are sore from holding that hatch up, and I've been trying to find a way to retain the OEM style hatch struts without damaging the hatch too badly figuring out a way to get them to bolt on. Is there any way to get to the nut without removing the glass or cutting/hacking/drilling the s*** out of the hatch? Should I just replace the hatch all together? It has been raining as stated earlier, and the hole for the top of the shock in the hatch has been letting water into the area behind the glass, I've taped it but it hasn't really helped a whole lot.

TL;DR I broke the rear hatch shock threaded mounting point and do not know what to do.
