Hey guys,I am from toronto canadai got a 87 200sx s12 that came with the ca18et.I bought a 180sx clip with a ca18det.all the mechanical parts i am ok with. I plan on using the ca18det ecu and harness. My question is if someone knows about it is:Conneting the end links to the ca18det harness to the lower engine harness is the only problem i am approaching at.Any help is appriciated PLZ...

ps:note that im using ca18DET ecu and harness, all i need is the end link plugs that connect to the electrical engine harness

thanks Bess

I don't know that any of us have access to an S12 FSM/wiring diagram, but we do have the S13 ones, so if you can get one, we should be able to go from there.

this website has all the wiring diagrams for both s12 and s13....the only problem is that i am not that good at it. I can read them fine but not confident enought to follow through with it. If any has the experience any help will be appriciated.ThanksBess

I beleive it would be just checking the pinout of the S12 connector, (source from a FSM or schematics) and check the pinout of the S13 connector. What signals or currents are going out of the s13 connector? It can't be too hard. You aren't converting any signals or voltage (adding resistance or transitors), so it should just be cut and soder. I'm planning on doing this same swap and it should be stright forward. I hope I didn't confuse you.

that's the thing, ARE THEY?as i know s12 got 2 coil and a ditributor and the det is disless and coil packed. SO will the voltage change between the two???maybe i do need a step up or down transformer. I don't know and i am not to confident with spliccing it at this point of stage without getting all the info down.Bess

I'm not one to generally link to other forums, but there just isn't the s12 expertise here on Nico to answer your question! You should check out http://www.club-s12.org as there are afew guys on there that have actually done this already:) Good luck!

hey man,I am a member there and ppl who have done it can't really reply to me coz they don't even know. So i am looking for info wherever i can find it. At the s12 forum we don't have a lot of s12 with ca18det's floating around and we have a whole section about them here. The # of ppl is much greater here so the chance of someone having done this project are a bit greater..Bess

Well, your next best bet is to go buy a standalone and leave the factory stuff alone. It's pretty simple for me to do, but if you have no knowledge of what you're messing with, you should pay someone to do it or you will cook something. With a standalone, you can eliminate the stock engine harness, afm, ecu, igniter, etc. But once again, if you have no knowledge of what you're playing with, you should probably take it to a professional.

well usually i am not one who goes to the next obstacle without trying this one. The reason why i was asking is that is someone might have done it, if they could take a pic of the endlinks. But anyhows i will try it my way and see what happensBess

What connector are you talking about? They only thing I see on the s12 diagram is the ECCS control unit. I wouldn't think that would matter because technically the only thing you are using from the s12 is the body harness. (correct me if I'm wrong) All the other control, inigition, and fuel delevery are being controled by the DET ECU. There would be no need to step up or down voltage or change resistance for the DET because nothing electrical (except body harness) is being converted. Once agian correct me if I'm wrong.

umm one car has dis and the other does not, and one has 2 coils and the other one is coil packed. So the voltage that used to be sent to the old coils is of a different output than the new one and so forth. Again i can't say wether you are right or wrong and looking at them i think the same way too, it's just that i have asked electricians around that can do the job and a few mentioned this. SO i can't confirm it until it's done. BUt it will get DONE!!!

Still, why does it matter? you SHOULD be replacing ALL the engine management related wiring and electronics with stuff from the DET, so existing stuff just goes bye bye

about the only thing to worry about is how to ge the tach to get a signal that it can use, or find a way to mount a DET tach, or get an aftermarket tach. the rest is normal swap wiring, the only other parts to interface w/ existing electronics is GND, 12V Battery, 12V IGN, 12V Acc, etc. basics.

Exactly, it's kinda like swapping any engine and harness, the only thing you are going to modify or convert would something thats related to the body or instrument panel. Anywho goodluck with the swap Euroboy. I am very excited to see another s12 getting what it deserves (CA18DET power). Keep me posted on how it turns out.
