I know I've read sevearl times on here that a direct drive s12 starter works on a ca18det....but has anyone had any issues? I snapped a stud on the solinoid where the + cable goes on my ca-det starter, and I pulled out my old ca18et starter to compare. One thing I noticed is that the gear is smaller in diameter than the one on the ca18det. Any issues with that?

I just wanted to check before I waste my time putting it on.....and if I need to source a new ca18det solinoid or starter

You're supposed to use it if you're converting to an SR flywheel as the SR flywheel is a larger diameter. IDK if that starter will work on a CA w/a regular CA flywheel .

Hmm, ok....that makes sense. Anyone know if a s12 starter will work on a ca18det flywheel?

I had another idea.....there are 2 posts on the solinoid....one that the + battery attaches to..and the other one a fat wire that comes out of the starter body. Since I broke off the post that the + cable was on.....can I just attach it to the other post? Will it work?

i used the starter off my auto CA20e s12 its the one without the hood part.(hoodless) still using the CA flywheel, and it works just fine.
