Helped a partner fit a sr20DET rr in a B14 sentra. He kept destroying his ACT copper clutch about every three months as the car is his daily driver. He installed an automatic transmission by adjusting the holes in the flex plate. Now he hears noises when starting and driving. Noises sound like metal striking metal and or backlash. Is there anything that can be done to solve this problem without going back to manual transmission.

how do you adjust the holes on the flex plate? If he had a manual trans then he had a flywheel to mount a clutch. If you installed an automatic then you would remove the flywheel and install a flex plate and bolt the torque converter to the flex plate. The flex plate should match the torque converter, if not that could be the noises he is hearing. You also have to use an automatic starter and not a manual starter. the flywheel teeth are different and could damage the starter. If he is using a manual starter on the auto flex plate then it may have stuck on the teeth of the flex plate and is grinding when driving and starting..

Did not know about the starter. The holes for the flex plate did not match the holes in the crank shaft perfectly, so the holes were stretched for the bolts to fit. Will change the starter. thanks man!!!

The flex plate was completely broken off around the crank shaft bolts and part relocked under the washer. That's what was causing the noises.
