I have ALWAYS washed my vert by hand, but I don't have the time right now and my car is covered with pollen and dust. It's a b-e-a-utiful day today and I want to give it a quick washdown and put down the top.

So, my question is: (1) How do you feel about a 'touchless' car wash as a quick solution? and (2) Is there anything I should worry about with the top and soap solution or water pressure? -it's a brand new top.

What's a "touchless" car wash? hahahaha.

Are you pressure washing your car? I've done it plenty of times, my top (wasn't in that great shape anyway) never got any worse.

As long as you wash the soap off, ur fine - just make sure you are using car wash soap.

I was thinking of going to this Shell station that advertises a "touchless" car wash. I think it means it washes by pressure and no brushes or scrubbie things that spin around.

OOOOOO, the gas station car washes.

I remember all of those saying "no soft-top convertibles" - i.e. they don't personally care if you go in or not, but if by some crazy chance your top blows off, they are not responsible.

Don't go to the drive through washes. Sure it might do no harm to the top, but if it does it'll be a BIG headache. I personally use the DIY wash with a pressure hose, but make sure to keep away from the top.

For a few dollars more, go to a car wash that does hand washing. Make sure they do not use brushes on the body.

I would just run it through the wash if that is what is convenient for you. While I haven't ran my 240 through one, I have done it with another soft top vert I had. It was even one with the brushes, but it didn't hurt it.

Try this:

Go about 80 miles an hour with the top down, then stand up in the car for about a minute. Then go to a car wash and let the brushes hit you in the face for about a minute and see which is worse. After you sit back down in the car, your lips and cheeks will be dragging in your lap. After a nice face brushing, your face might feel nice and clean. That top will not take the abuse a hard top will, but it is not fragile either.

I wouldn't make a habit out of using the car wash with a vert, but I really can't see it hurting the top if used once in a while. Those "signs" they put out for convertible cars are strictly for liability reasons.

I'd just keep driving around like that until I got the time to actually wash it.

Sacrifices...sometimes you gotta make them. I'm actually in this situation right now. A few nice days have passed by already.

I don't trust those car washes...touchless or not. I've heard the stories and seen the results of using them myself (ex: dad's van) and it's not pretty. I warned him not to do it but he did and now its got scratches all over.

^ I agree.

some of those touchless things can scratch the paint. My uncle's friend had his newly painted suv and when he went through the touchless car wash, there were scratches all over. Apparently, there was a piece of glass stuck on the cloths.

so I think DIY pressure wash is better

Ignorance on so many levels...

I say just take it to one of the powerwash places. Assuming you have those around, it's like $1.50 to powerwash your car and it takes you all of 1 minute to do it.

It doesn't make any difference. Those places take CDN and US quarters all the same. On a side note, the exchange is so close these days that it isn't even a deal to use CDN quarters like it used to be.

floppy head...

You know, I think I have more CDN change in my DSM ashtray than I do US change at the moment... Just a little trivia.

Your back window wants Plexus. Great aerosol stuff sold through marine supply places. No scratch, no streak.
