I have a set of cam gears from a spare head. I'm thinking of going to a machine shop and having them cut new notches in the gear so I can advance the cam timing. From what I understand, advancing the cam timing will increase low end torque and decrease the high end horsepower. This is what I want to do.

My questions are:Does anyone have experience with changing the cam timing? What increase in torque can I expect at what amount of advance? How far can I advance the timing before the valves hit the pistons? Are there any aftermarket companies that sell adjustable cam gears?

Just don't advance it too far, or else you will have some nasty detonation and then you're 5th KA24E. I fixed my timing and I ran a LOT better.

im not sure mabye 250? it looks as if you could just drill holes in yours in yours to get the same result... all those gears do is change your cam timing which u can do to some extent by rotating the cams adv. or ret. from tdc manually.

The gears alot a more precise adjustment, while just moving one link over allows a more "hit it with a hammer" approach to tuning. Adjustable cam gears may give you .5 hp compared to just moving the chain one link over, but only after about 20 dyno pulls and a few days of tuning.
