Recently, the brake lights wouldn't go off on my 1991 fastback 240. I had to have the plastic stopper for the brake light switch replaced by a mechanic friend of mine. It broke again in four days. I then decided the second time around to try and repair it myself. First, I tried to just use the plastic stopper from my cruise control (since it doesn't work), and my lights still wouldn't go out. I figured it wasn't thick enough. So I then just installed a brand new rubber one from the dealership AND THE DAMN LIGHTS STILL WOULDN'T TURN OFF!! I then had the bright idea of replacing the plastic stopper from the cruise control switch back where its suppose to go along with the new rubber stopper on my brake light switch, and whaddaya know my brake lights finally turn off when they're suppose to.

My question is, are both these switches inter-related? You know, does one's function affect other? I'm just making sure that my bright idea was in fact the solution and not some other random thing I did (like slapping some other thing under there in fustration)...

i would assume that they would be related seeing as when you press the brakes your cruise turns off. the brake lights are weird, i had a problem once where my car wouldn't come out of park (auto of course) turned out to be that when the brake lights burn out it wont let you shift out lol

i literally just had my little plastic stopper for my breaks go out and break.. it left my lights on all the time. i used a bolt.. with a nut on each side of the little hole.. then adjusted it accordingly. works perfect now. and yea..

he is correct

but if you are still having the lights stay on, try what i did.. im 17 and pretty tiny. so i was able to get my hands up there with the nut.. but maybe you can too. its more effective than rubber i would assume.. maybe the rubber isnt strong enough?

I fixed the problem already. I just wanted to make sure that I fixed the problem because I replaced BOTH stoppers and not because of me randomly slamming things under the steering column when I was installing them. I guess I'm not that flexible that was hell for such a little thing.

I'm sure your solution will outlast mine, but this is a brand new rubber stopper from Nissan. It certainly should last a few years compared to the old used plastic one my friend installed for me.

Anyway I was just trying to verify that one affects the other. Thanks...
