Sorry, I am a bit dense. In this picture, what is the unit attached to the red nipple thing?? Lower right in the picture.

Is it suppose to have a protective plastic cover?? My '94 240SX convertible does not.

I took my '94 240SX to a mechanic and he R&R the EGR temperature sensor ($188 part). And he did other things when I was not watching. I 'think' I had a cover over this red thing, but I do not even know what it is!

that's just a cover over the spark plug wire coming from the ignitor. Given the location of the EGR line from the manifold, he may have disconnected the wire and forgot to put that boot back on. You should be able to pick one up from an auto parts store.

Wire with red boot is from the ignition coil to the distributor.
