Can I get a comparison between the FC and S14? Why did some of yal choose the S14 over the FC?

I chose S13, but the reason I stayed away from mazdas is cause I don't know how to work on rotaries.

I would say that is going to be the most common answer.

FC's are really cool cars!

There are a few in Louisville that kick arse.

Ive been looking for an FD, but i realize I dont need a bike and a sports car. Neither one can get around in the snow :(However i would chose a rotary over an S13,14 because there r only 3 moving parts in a rotory. Something like 8 bolts holding the block together. U can pull it out with your bare hands (assuming u and another guy r pretty strong) instead of a cherry picker. And all u gota do is replace apex seals and maybe side seals everyonce in a while. Easy.

I have heard of issues with reliability, etc. I know more about tradition piston powered motors anyway.

i was thinking about getting one before the S13, but i didnt know rotaries that well and didnt want to have to rebuild the engine every 60k miles. that and like Bunta said, they get not so great gas mileage. prolly the one bad thing about the rotary engine. they arent the most efficent engines.

The FC's are good cars. They handle great. But the Rotarys are problematic. They are getting a little long in the tooth. Cars that old have problems. The only way I would go with an FC over and s14 is if the FC is aTurbo II. I would love to have a T II. I dont care if the motor is gone. I would referb it.

But, if you know someone who works on RX's you can get a referb done on the engine for around $1200.

I have three rotar head friends, that have been through at least three a piece. And none of them still run. They are fun, but not what I would want for an every day driver. Would make a great project car. And if you get one, I have a passenger door and a set of tail lights laying in the yard under the tree if you need them.

Also check out RX7club.com. They will probally point out better points on the ReX than us.

the turbo II FCs were beasties. the NAs were kinda piggish. however, the NA rotaries tend to hold up a little better than the turbo models. due to the high heat produced by the turbo, the engine tends to heat up a little more than advisable. when you add 2 turbos, well, you get the picture. C-West built a single turbo FD N1 style and it looked great. HUGE radtiator and FMIC, vented hood, THICK seals, big oil cooler, three fuel pumps, standalone fuel system, and lots of heat tubing. they built it to last a long time before needing a rebuild and not over heating at the track.

IMO...the only good rx-7 is the 2nd Gen. The 3rd gen has too much heating and air problem. I agree with Jester...TurboII is badass...:drooling My friend put the turboII in his 1st gen...400whp and it's been running for monthssssss w/o any problem watsoever. It's a drift car too..hahaha...400whp on a 2000lbs car...wtf

if I ever got a rotary I think I'd probably swap in a piston engine... I honestly, have read quite a bit about rotaries and still am not completely sure how they run. They sound badass tho...

Ok the older rotories did burn some gas but the new rennesis engine has the ports on the side and has other changes. It helps increase the gasmilage and performance.

andrave: http://home.twmi.rr.com/rx7det...s.htmBTW why swap out a light weight rotory engine for a heavy piston engine into an FC or FD chassis and mess up its 50/50 weight distribution?

THE ROTARY HAS BAD GAS MILEAGE AND BAD EMISSIONS WHEN IT GETS A LITTLE OLD. BAD GAS MILEAGE IS NOT A GOOD THING RIGHT NOW.

I NEED TO TURN CAPS OFF...

The new RX8s r in the 20s for mpg, but u said "old" so i guess the only thing u could do is replace seals? Damn gas prices Grr. We all need 50mpg bikes :)

How many liters is the Renesis? It would be cool to throw it in a FC. Mmm.. FC's are my favorite. I beat an n/a FC once, i was all proud till i figured out that the n/a's are 140hp stock. :D

yeah...they can be viscous with a good port, but then they also have no low end whatsoever(not that they had much power there to begin with...)
