I raced a 3rd Gen Mazda RX-7 TT automatic last night and Lost. We raced for fun and because we were bored. Very cold night long deserted road wide enough for 3 cars.

As of right now Im pissed because I know I could have taken him out if it werent for my dam traction setup. I have blown stock shocks, 15inch rims all around and about 20% thread left on my rear tires.

I launched at 3000rpm and tried as hard as I possibly could to feather the cluth out I span my tires all thorugh 1st gear, 2nd gear and right about half way through 3rd I launched. The Rx-7 span his tires as well but he mangaed to grab on to the asphalt quicker than I could. By the time my car got a good grip on the ground the Rx-7 had already jumped 2 cars lenght. But as soon as my car did grab on to the street I managed to somewhat catch up and lose by about 1/2 a car to 1 car lenght.

The 3rd Gen Rx-7 was a stock twin turbo other than the 3inch apexi exhaust system and 19 inch rims all around with about 80% thread.

my car: S13 240sx:ylsuper with S13 redtop. Apexi N1 catback, test pipe, boosting 9-10psi I described my suspension setup above.

What do you guys think.

I know street racing is bad and wrong and illegal but the only one's who would have gotten injured would have bee me or him the two duma$$es racing.

you should have taken it easy on the 1-2 shift and given the tires a chance to hook.

i remember one time, it was the funniest thing. i was in my old 90 Eclipse, and this kid in a 95 red 4 door honda civic with white wheels and a huge fartcan was following me to race. so we catch a stop light. i had me and one of my friends in the car, and the other kid had another person also.

so as were waiting for the light, hes revving the crap out of his motor. im not doing anything. when the light changes, he guns it, spinning his tires and making that weak *** honda spinning tires sound. i dont even launch, just let the clutch out nice and start hammering it [AWD, gave up my launch advantage]. by the time i topped 1st, i was at his door, hit second, he was at my rear bumper, hit 3rd and was out. i was going 90 by the time he hit 60, it was hilarious.

well, anyway, what im saying is you gotta try to keep your cool so you dont mess the launch up or spin your tires too much.

and remeber, no full throttle in first.

interesting story. Why "no full throttle in first''? do you think that even whith my $hity tires I could have beaten that Rx-7?

how could u put all that money into gettin an sr, which i respect, but not do suspension at all. what a shame. jsut put that stuff at the top of your todo list. i feel u tho im gettin wheel hop which is making my weak clutch slip unless i ease into each shift then floor it. my agx's coming in this week should help tho

im in the process of starting my suspension setup although I have realized I went about it the wrong way I should have done the suspension before we dropped the engine in. But the problem was that my brother wanted to Drift and I wanted to Drag race. Now since my brother no longer has say as to what happens to the car I will set up the suspension for Drag

personally, i would want a suspension setup for drifting on a street car. just get some shocks and lower it an inch.

its all good untill you accidentally drift into a telephone pole.

and not going full throttle in first allows your tires to gain speed without spinning, so once you hit second, you can pretty much give it all its got.

once you get new tires, it might be a different story. its best to go out by yourself and see what combo of launch/throttle/shift point works best for you.

has anybody done better against an RX-7 like this one? I expected the Twin Turbo to do way better. What do you guys think about the outcome?

sounds like you atleast have the pleasure of knowing your car is faster, all you need now is new tires and new shocks and it seems you'd easily walk him

Get some subframe spacers, new springs/shocks, rear sway bars, etc etc and some bigger rims/tires.

You shouldn't be spinning thru 3rd, thats retarded to even think about dragging someone with 20% tread left.

I coulda walked you in my Nikes.

Hey if you need a better suspension setup then your in luck, i just got some Tein S tech Springs and 17" ADR Sokudo 8 gold with silver lip. But unfortunately for me some dum *** on a cell phone totaled my 1990 240 Coupe. I cant pay for repairs and i cant collect from the insurance so they are both up for sale. The Rims i'll let got for about 650-700 with shipping because its getting to that time of year when i need to pay my tuition. The springs i'll sell for 150 even though they are still in the box and in the original packing never before used. I'll have pics of the rims and springs up in about a day or two. Also if anyone wants a 1990 240sx coupe black with black int then it to is up for grabs for the North east area only still runs/drives invested 1200 into fixing the engine and other mechanical pasts so it wont give you any problems, beside that the damages done where only external but i cant come up with the money to fix it because of school costs. Will sale and delivery to your freakin front door for 650. :(

No not really, but I do need some interior parts from your car. Actually I would swap out my whole interior with yours if I had time.

How totaled is it?
