Unless he modifies his SR20, you'll rape him.

Rotory for life!

: )

You'll destroy a Z as well.

A decently built S13 with SR20DET, Exhaust, FMIC, Intake, T28, and fuel upgrades running 1 bar and with a LSD will run around a 13.2-13.6 depending on conditions and launch. Thats from what I have seen locally. I have seen FDs running in the high 12s (12.7+) from just a mild boost bump, FMIC, stock turbos, intake, and 3" exhaust.

A friend of mine ran a 12.0@115mph last weekend in his 93 FD, with FMIC, stock turbo's running about 15lbs, intake, DP, full 3' exhaust, power FC and a little bigger injectors. You'd take most BPU SR20's. How many miles are on the motor in your FD? Right around 7X,XXX miles they start to lose compression and you have to replace the motor.

I'd put my money on the RX7, I think they are lighter, we weighed my friends RX7 in at 2950lbs(truck weigh station) and thats with, full interior, roll cage, full stereo, 19inch wheels, and full surge tank and gas tank. I weighed my 1990 240 in at 2750lbs with me in it(180lbs), and absolutely nothing in the back, no carpet, seats, spare, or drivers seat. If it was an S14, I think the RX7 would smoke it, but I'm not sure about the S13.

Tell your friend to shut up until he's got the motor in his car (note: if you own a 240sx, it is a requisite that 'you're doing an sr/ca/rb swap'...yet for some reason not all 240s have an sr/ca/rb), and then he won't really have much to say (aside from 'my clutch is slipping', 'I have a full tank of gas', or 'I missed a shift') after you walk him like a poodle. if he wants to bench race, a stock s14 sr20det puts down about 220 hp, an FD would be something like 260?

Find a tight twisty road with some bumps in the corners and the last generation RX7 will outrun anything under $100K. Light weight (at least for todays cars), good power, and an outstanding suspension. Too bad I can't fit one over my hips!

i'd be a lot closer race with the 300zx. We tune a lot of thoughs locally. We had a guy work at our shop that purchased a 91 tt. he did a JWT ecu, afc, slicks, exhuast, popcharger and ran a 12.1 1/4 mile. Stock turbo's, intercoolers, and fuel. We have had a couple rx7's though do the hks single upgrade. They are ****ing insanely fast. Although one overboosted and has since lost compression. The FD still huals a**. Local s13 sr20det's have been running mid 13's on the stock t25 turbo.

My past experience with 300z's has been not so good. They just like to break down, and blow head gaskets. My friend has a 93 FD with a Turbonetics T72 turbo, which is about the size of a GReddy T88, with a q trim wheel, which is basically a bad a** turbo, he put down just over 600hp to the wheels. We haven't ran it yet, but we expect mid-low 10's on slicks and full interior. RX7's are simply amazing, tehy handle like you wouldn't believe, although they like to blow the apex seals, which in turn takes out the turbo as pieces of it goes through the turbo, but they are still fun as hell.

hey Dauntless,

which RB motor in which car (S13?), if you don't mind me asking. Also, what is the weight difference vs KA24DE and SR, and the power rating of the RB you are planning to use? Has anyone dropped an rb35 into a 240, and will you be making a kit for anyone else who would like to do this swap?

thanks Adam

sorry, haven't researched the RB motor very well

I will be putting the RB26DETT into a S13 Hatch. I will be retaining the twin turbos, its not a direct swap. : ) The RB25 is significantly more of a direct swap and doesn't appear to be too difficult for someone with experience.

I will not be selling kits, I will however do in house installations. : )

The weight difference is not significant, when my shipment gets here I'll weigh all three. An aftermarket hood and battery relocation should balance things out a little better, but I'll know for sure how much difference there is when everything gets here.

I was not aware they made a RB35...I think you mean 25, and yes, it has been done by 1 or 2 people in the nation. McKinney has one over in California in a S13 coupe, but I don't know of anyone else offhand who has one, supposedly theres one in South Florida but who knows.

Anything else? : )

thanks daunt,

yup, meant rb25, not 35, my bad. The price for a rb25, with clutch, intercooler, transmission and wiring harness. I don't understand why people quote engines with a price, but forget to mention all the other stuff that is needed in order to make it run, which usually is close to the cost of the motor. When do you plan to get the motors in, and how much would you charge for an install? Don't you think it would be profitable distributing a kit for other people around the world that would like to do this swap? Not worth your time I suppose. HP ratings please? Well over 300 I believe.

And since we are on the topic of Mazda's, does anyone know the name of that triple rotary engine found in the Cosmos, and is the cosmos close to a 929? If there are any sites or links with info on this motor, please pass them, it would be much appreciated.

thank you

The cosmo's came with a twin turbo 13b (two rotor) or a twin turbo 20b (three rotor). They were a strange looking coupe. Very luxury. Too me for some reason, I think the look like those old buick reatas. Not too close to a 929. Peter Ferrel racing is the best source for 20b swaps in the states

cool, thanks. My buddy wants a beefier engine in his 929 (yeah, i know, 929 WTF?, but he believes in American sports cars and not japanese). Is this the motor that would be best for a 4500 pound pos? Actually, its a nice luxury sedan, a little too big for me though (I like riding boats on the water, not streets).

thanks again

Peter Ferrel got totally discredited over a scandal with the RX7 club, you should check it out before you purchase from him. http://www.rx7clubs.com

The 20B is a beast, and would be great in any car. : )

The R33 RB25 pushes "250" bhp stock, the R34 RB25 pushes "280" bhp stock. I put them in quotes because the RB26DETT pushes "276" bhp stock, and we all know that isn't true... : )

Mine are complete, it depends on what year you want or what not, I think the R33's 100% complete are going to run about 4,000 dollars. I don't know what labor charge on it will be, but it will probably be 2000 or maybe a bit more, that however is not a quote, thats a guess. I don't think it would be profitable to sell a kit as most of the work needs to be done by an installer. Anyone who's going to put the engine in themselves doesn't need a kit. : )

Anything else offhand? : )

I understand you don't have the motors yet, or have installed one yet, so every price you are quoting here is subject to change. Thanks for the figures though. In your modest opinion, what RB series of motors would be best suited to go into my car, '95 240sx for street and track use? Can the 4WD drivetrain from the skyline also be transfered into a 240? I'm not looking for a monster to rip up the drag strip. 4WD or AWD as well as a turbo would be a nice set up IMO, but all that extra weight may take away from the 240's outstanding handing abilities, what do you guys think? I've heard of a 4WD 240, but could never find anything on it, urban legend maybe? The kit was only a suggestion, there are a handful of shops out here that will install a SR motor into a 240, can only imagine the look on their faces when they see an RB!!

Rotaries are amazing technological beasts, however an engine life of only 70k miles (give or take) is not worth the money imo. Plus the 13b's had a couple design flaws, the biggest one I can think of atm would be mazda using vaccum lines for their turbos that were not attached, glued, clamped on in anyway. Easy as hell to blow off, simple a** fix you just have to put it back on, but one little unhooked vacuum line = an insane loss of power. I also agree a healthy running rotary...there's not a lot that can beat them. But considering the maintenance, work, time, money, and effort in getting one to run healthy, I again don't think its worth it imo. 93's also had a ****load of tsb's and recalls when they first came out.Lets compare price differences on say buying a 93 rx7, doing some tuning compared to buying a 91 240 and dropping an sr and doing some tuning:93 rx7 = 15,000 +/-fmic = 800-1,000intake = 200powerfc = 500downpipe, midpipe, catback = 1000 +total = 17,500 - 17,700this doesnt include any labor or tax or whatever from buying it and having them installed too.91 240 = anywhere from 500-3,000sr20det = 2600 (blacktop s13)nismo lsd = 950coilovers = 1,800brake conversions = 900 for a kit, less if you salvageintake = 200exhaust + downpipe = 1,500 (hks racing with cat replacement)total = 9,950 (if the 240 cost 2,000)that right there is already a pretty nice 240, and guess what? we still have another 7,000 or so to make it even better! you could tune it for drag, top speed, drift, whatever. I personally think it would be possible to beat an rx7, drag race....maybe not, but i think drag racing is gay and requires little skill, so I wouldn't even tune a 240 to do it (my opinion). The price thing is also another reason i sold my 93 rx7 R1 to get a 240 and do a swap. insurance was also insane for the r, plus i had a car payment so i said no. lol selling an rx7 for a 240....now that's a real nissan enthusiast!!!!!

The RWD transmission from the RB25 is the easiest way to go, I'm not putting the Attessa into my car. I'm not even sure how that would work, WAY WAY WAY to much effort, and I'd rather have the RWD anyways. The RB25 transmission bolts on tot he 26, so thats really nice as far as that goes.

For you, if you were actually seriously considering it, I would say go 25, way less work and more power than you'll need. : ) You can easily get over 300 wheel horsepower and you have the torque and power of a 6.

Thats just my opinion, I could be wrong. Anything else? : )
