Rusty exhaust tips, why?

So say you have a 240 with a very stock looking exhaust.

Say it looks like these, note the fancy exhaust tip covers:



One day you come out to your car and something just doesn't look right...

Well, the driver's side exhaust tip got lost somehow, and now a narrow pipe with a hole rusted into the bottom of it (ghetto)

I just can't help but wonder why the hell that would happen, because it really doesn't snow in Washington, so salty roads shouldn't be a problem. It's possible my car is running a tad bit rich, which I'm unsure of how to test or solve that issue, but could it be the reason that it ate a hole out of the exhaust causing the tip cover to fall off? When it's light out again I'll try taking off the other one to see if there's any rust on that side.

I'm not sure how the tips are held in place, tack welded? Or perhaps a screw?

Mine is missing a tip as well, blah.

But seriously there is normally a fair bit of condensation that occurs near the exhaust tip isnt there? Im always noticing water comin out of there when I follow people.

Nissan needs a recall on S13 exhaust tips.lol One day I came outside and found my tip missing. I was pissed but I got over it.

I just installed my BRM exhaust on Saturday and threw out the old exhaust, including those tips yesterday. I could've just given them to you seeing that you are in the Seattle area too, oh well.

Wouldn't be surprised if some ghetto guy stole them because he was missing his own.

(humidity) if your car is running for a few min. check to see if water is dripping out of pipes thats (humidity) thats your rust problem.
