Hi,

I noticed a rusted enclosure or shield of some kind on my 2009 Rogue in the rear right side of the vehicle undercarriage and was wondering if anyone knew what this component is. I am guessing it is a fuel tank shield? I don't see any rust on other parts of the vehicle's undercarriage. I also don't see any fuel leak evidence nor strange noises when driving or gas smells. Thanks for any thoughts.

So odd - this literally just fell off my car just the other day, 2011 Rouge. Noticed a chunk of extremely rusty metal just dangling off the rear of the vehicle. I removed what was hanging until I had a chance to investigate further. Given the age and the mileage on this vehicle I went with a 'patch'. I purchased a vent end-cap from home depot and put it up in the place of the part that had basically corroded away. I really just wanted to protect the plastic evap canister from road debris and figured with the age and mileage of the vehicle that's all I need to get it through til it's time to get rid of it.

The patch is held in place with a screw and a few strategically placed stainless steel wire hangers and it'll get the job done for sure. Overall cost for the replacement about $7.

300zx, thanks much for the exact part #.

Appreciate everyone else's thoughts. FWIW, I am in the northeast where rust is normally not a classic scourge of cars. I usually wash the car thoroughly after winter is done to get the road salt off. I know FL is bad for the salty humid air, my in-laws always had rust issues in their cars there.

Hopefully this will be an easy fix and not indicative of a bigger EVAP issue.

No problem. maybe a coat of rust paint will help the new one last longer???

I'm sure you're right, either rust paint or rust protectant spray.

What is the downside to not replacing this shield?

This vapor canister tray just fell off my car. (Actually just started dangling from the plastic clasp. So I removed it.)

If I can find the part, how difficult is it to replace this myself? (I have a 2011 Nissan Rogue.)

Are the bolts going to be completely rusted in?

(I think I ordered a bunch of those plastic clips to replace missing ones around the car. I think I have a bunch of the plastic clips left.)

Thank you! :)

The part is still available and cheap, NissanPartsDeal has it for $11.33. Not hard to change except for the rust, if I recall there are 2 bolts holding the tray to the car and 2 more holding the evap to the tray.

@VStar650CL thank you for the reply.

Hey. I am near Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Is there anywhere in Canada that would be a good place to pick this piece up (or order it)? Just want to avoid any potential (expensive shipment) or (border fees.) TY :)

Best thing to do is google the Nissan p/n. You may find a Nissan dealer on Kijiijii or something like that. Or you could just hit the dealer Parts Dept, list is only $15.40 US.

Fluid film is a dear friend of mine here in Ohio. I’ve managed to keep my 09 Altima rust free. 2 cans every November has worked miracles and saved lots of broken fasteners. I don’t have a spec of rust on any doors or panels. My son in law uses wd40 and has good luck as well.
