So, as some of you know, I got my 84 in January for $400 (plus gas and trailer rental) and so far a basic tune up later, she runs like a champion (total investment, under $1k excluding gas and a blown tire :D). One thing that I was amazed at was how the interior and underneath the chassis are 99% rust free (tiny bit of surface rust in a 2 sq inch area; yes, even the spare tire area and hatch area are rust free inside). Not bad for a Montana car for at least 8 years. However, the body panels and some areas next to the windshield have considerable amounts of rust (some surface, some bubbling of the paint, and some are just ready to break off). I was wondering if anyone knew of any place that still carries replacement panels? Considering how much these rust, you'd think companies would have replacement panels; yet I cannot find any. There are some good panels in some of the yards within a 5 hour drive, but they are wanting $250+ for panels that could be compromised. I could cut and bend some new panels, however, the right (passenger) rear quarter panel was hit previously (not terribly, but enough that the bumper has a dent too) and I've got to replace the entire rear quarter panel up to where the small window starts (from the rear of the vehicle (both horizontally and vertically)). So, if no one knows a company that makes rear quarters for the 84-85/86, do you have one that is in good condition (i.e. minimal surface rust at most)?

Rust is the number one killer of Z cars, the generation doesn't matter. The "A" pillar rust isn't uncommon, the T tops drain forward crud plugs an internal passage and you get rot. If it's no too bad cutting and bending metal is the way to go, I did one on mine but it wasn't bad just a small hole. The rear quarter afik no one makes a quarter for the Z31 so you're stuck with junkyards, hopefully you can get away without replacing the whole quarter.

Would it help show you what I mean for the rear quarter panel if I took a picture and linked it to this thread? For the mean time, I have primered over the rust areas to help prevent it from spreading more. So I have some time to decide what would be best.

Evildky, have you heard of that site? It seems like they have a ton of stuff in good shape. Curious to know if it's legit or not.

First I've heard of it but seems legit, some guy parting out Z31's. I'd start with a small order see if they ship timely and represent their product accurately.

I've talked to him a couple times, ordered some hard to find interior parts and had no issues. He has always been willing to spend the time to find what I need for my 86. Not everything he has is listed, if you don't see something just ask.

Wow, glad I checked out this thread. This guy has interior parts that have been unavailable for a hell of a long time. I am going to try him out today, I have a ton of broken or missing Nissan Plastic in burgundy that he has. I spent $300 on Nissan breakable plastic the first 2-3 years I had the car as so many parts were made like crap. I finally learned to be VERY careful with all of them, but after another 25+ yeras some just gave up the farm.
