All,

I had some sort of metallic case/protector rust out on me and had to remove it (it was hanging underneath)
The part I am talking about is directly behind the rear passenger side wheel ; under the bumper. It was a metal box and with it gone now exposes a black plastic looking box/part.

Should I be worried? Does that black box absolutely need to be protected by a new metal box?

Thanks for any input

you are talking about the metal heat shield for the evap box. those rust out constantly. its in the direct 'line of fire' from the tire during rain.
does it need to be there? NO. they actually have to be removed in order to install tow hitches.

are you talking about that rusted POS?

right. thats what i was talking about.

you dont really need it. if you are paranoid about it, hit your local junk yard and they will find you that shield. it wont be more than $30

Got bored at home one time. I actually took it off some months ago stripped off the rust and spray painted it. Unnecessary but there was nothing to do that time so I did it.
