You should be able to cut the rails out and grind it down. Then weld in new metal. It its that bad on the frame rails its probably worse on the bottom of the strut towers and other places. I had my first 240 do that. I was in a accident and the frame rail pretty much disappeared. I have seen worse.

i know this may be retarded. I know on shows like overhaulin and stuff they drop the frame from the body and paint it.

Can you take a frame from another 240sx and put it on? I should have said that to the other guy but i was grumpy that day

That's a ****ty deal.

Take some more pictures from farther back.. and pictures of other places you see rust. I'd be interested in seeing. If it's only the structure rails that run parallel beneith the vehicle then I don't think that's a real big deal.

Those rails are very thin anyways, they really don't do much for structural integrity. If it were me, I'd just cut them off with a die cutter and find a way to compensate for them somewhere else. Welding new rails on will be a pain in the *** since that metal is so thin.

Mine were somewhat bent a bit from bottoming out, I just used a pry bar and forced them back into commission.

cut, clean and replaced with new rails.....Nissan got them and if the rest of your car is clean it will be a good investment. You friend can help you on the welding of the new ones, yes metal in that area is very thin....

They come in 3 pieces, when you look at them from front to back, the one I know I about because I need one and after checking with Midaway nissan I think it was close to a $100.00 dollars. You can always talk your welder friend and make them out of metal....maybe cheaper....

well he said he didnt want anything to do with that because of liability issues, but i guess i can show him how flimsy it is anyway and then maybe he can make some out of stronger stuff and be ok with it. thanks for the advice so far guys

Yeah, those rails are in very bad shape, you will need a full transplant of the rails.......and put plenty of rust proofing on the new ones...Damn cold weather!!!! Where you from Alaska....just kidding...
