I'm looking to buy a 96' 240SX from a dealership in Indiana. The car has 80,000 miles, 1 owner, and has had annual factory maintenance from the Nissan dealership including washing/detailing.

What I'm worried about is rust. Since I live too far away to see the car in person, I can't tell if there is any rust on the underbody. (the unibody appears rust free in the pictures)... does anybody know what kinda chances of there being rust on this car are?

^ You can see the rotor is all rusty in that picture (or maybe that's just the color they get from the brakes? Not sure.)

If anybody lives in Indiana I'd pay you money to peep this car for me real quick.

Thanks everybody...

the rotor rust comes from the moisture when it rains. the car looks pristine. there might be rust, very little to surface rust, on nuts and bolts but I don't think in major areas.

It's best you get pics of the undercarriage if you're not too certain.

Holy s*** you guys are so nice and ready to help... maybe I need to move to Indiana!

Ernest, the address is the one I posted in my second post. It's 3990 East Lincoln Highway US 30 Merrillville, IN 46410. Let's talk in PM's and I'll get your information.

Anybody else live closer, though? 2 hours seems like a long way to drive unless you have a good radio station/music to listen to like http://www.coast2coastam.com...

Thanks for the input nifares... that makes sense.

Indiana is using too much salt. I am really curious to see whether it has rust or not. I really hope it doesn't. Make sure you examine the paint thoroughly because ppl tend to paint over the rust instead of fighting it.

edit: Northern Indiana, even worse. Be extra cautious man, I hope this baby was garage kept. Also it looks freshly painted, so keep your eyes open.

If it has only 1 owner with 80k on it, I doubt theres any rust ATLEAST any serious rust. This is an S14 we're talking about right?

EDIT: It looks more sun damaged than rusted (I'm looking at the lip, keep in mind I don't know much about S14's.). The rotor rust is just something that happens with a car thats been sitting, my rotors looked like that after sitting for a week on my car. I've changed pads and rotors while its misty outside and they will start to rust after being out of the package for 20mins. You're best bet is to just go check it out.

The paint is original and the lip is just a different color, not sun damaged.

Ewok is going to check it out for me this week so I'll update this thread then.
