AIVU valve ? What is going on with the J30's lately..no more competent VG30DE mechanics out there ? I don't think there is such a thing on the car..maybe they meant Idle/AAC valve..
You don't have to readjust anything when doing a timing belt on this engine. Remove radiator..waterpump..timing belt cover. Lock on tensioner stop bolt. Align to TDC/crank/pulley marks...Remove tensioner..remove belt.. replace tensioner..replace belt...adjust tensioner..close engine and drive. I was just reading this on my own J30 service manual less than 10mins ago.. (playing from memory..double check your own manual/sources)
Sounds like they did something with the timing.. You could have a misaligned teeth on the belt itself, and it can result in this. The tensioner adjustment process is very precise on this engine..using feeler guages..belt tension guages etc.. Noise in motor could be belt slap..misfire..etc.
Checklist of parts for J30 replacement:
A - 3 Drive Belts (A/C Compressor, Belt Fan & Alternator Belt, Power Steering Pump Belt) B - Timing BeltC - Water Hoses (Quantity 2) D - Crankshaft Sprocket Plate E - Water Pump & Water Pump Gasket F - Camshaft O-Ring Seals (Quantity 2) G - Camshaft Oil Seals (Quantity 4) H - Tensioner Springs (Quantity 2) I - Timing Belt Tensioner J - Thermostat
Take this and go back to them and ask them if they did all this. BTW, the 95J30T has a kevlar belt that is good until 105K. Hopefully you took advantage of it.
