So I have an 03 camry and the body isn't rusted but underneath it's rusted and I live in Michigan so it snows a lot and they consequently spray a lot of salt on the roads during the winter time. My camry wasn't rustproofed, but I just got a rogue about half a year ago in November and it was driven in the winter this past winter. Should I rust proof it? The dealer said they could rust proof it, is it good or worth it? My camry, last year, didn't have anything rust off, but this spring, after checking it out, I saw the heat shield rusted off so what should I do about that and is it fine? But anyways, moving to the rogue, is rustproofing it worth it and what does it entail? Should I get it done at the dealership, or get it done in nearby Canada (sarnia/windsor, greater toronto, i heard sarnia does a good job and it's closer) They work on american cars, right? You don't need canadian registration, etc? Anyways, where should I rust proof it or should I rust proof it myself, by spraying truck bed spray underneath. Is it too late to rust proof as it's already been through a winter? The car has 5000 some miles on it now, so if I want it done, I should do it before the next winter, but where should I do it at? Thanks. Anybody have a car rustprooffed at the dealer? How was it? Speaking of the dealer, the first oil change is free and I recently did it, but it was conventional oil. THey said they used 5w30 and this isn't a rogue select and the factory fill is 0w20 and they said to use synthetic in the future, so shouldn't they have used synthetic? Was this bad to use 5w30 for the car so the dealer coudl save on costs when offering the "free" oil change? thanks, and they said the rogue needed tire rotations every 5000 miles, is that true? And dont' awd cars need similar tread or else you damage the transfer case, or is that not necessary, as I talked to the dealership person and they said that was for older AWD systems, so if I have a flat, that doesn't mean I have to replace all four tires again, or not necessarily? Thanks. And can directional tires be used on this car? And how often should I change the CVT fluid? Valvoline cvt covers ns-2 but not ns-3 as is specified, but when ns-3 aftermarket, possibly by valvoline comes out, is it ok to use it? And how do you know if you have a cvt issue as i heard many nissan cvts have issues before the warranty, so i was thinking of doing an extended powertrain warranty. how much is an extended powertrain warranty and how long does it cover until (120k?) anything after that? Thanks.

I cannot comment on rust proofing, where I live rust is not a huge problem unless it comes with it from the factory like my Rogue.

Oil Change - I would not worry you had 5w30 installed. It will be fine. Just make sure to have the proper oil installed when you are paying for it. There really isn't much to do about it now - you could complain to the dealer, and they might give you another free one, but they might not. In the end you might spend hours arguing with them.

Tire Rotations - You should rotate as per the manual for optimal life and driving experience (handling, stability, etc.). The manual should mention what the variance of acceptable tread difference is (I do not have AWD so I have never looked). You should be able to find places willing to do this for $20 (my Nissan dealer changes $40 or $60, but the Chrysler dealer nearby charges $20). Here is an article from Tire Rack, who in no way shape or form benefit from tire rotations (they only sell tires). It also talks about shaving tires, in case you ever need to replace a single tire: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/ ... ?techid=18

Flat Tire - See tire shaving in the article above

Directional Tires - I do not see why not, provided they are installed in the appropriate direction ;)

CVT Fluid - Use only Nissan fluid. Change as per the manual you have. The dealer can check the life of the fluid with a tool, and tell you if it needs to be changed. The life of the fluid is dependant on your driving. For example, if you tow you may want to change it sooner.

CVT Issue - There are a couple posts in this forum on the first couple pages about CVT failure. You can read up on how people noticed it.

Sorry - I hope that answers your questions. If I missed one just let me know.

a lot of your questions can be answered, by using the search function.

rust proofing is a nice term, but its far from the truth. a lot of parts do NOT get covered with this magical "proofer". engine, transmission, transfercases, drive shafts, cv-joints, suspension parts, exhaust parts, etc will NOT be sprayed. only solid, non-moving metal = which is already somewhat rust proof on its own! furthermore, many parts have holes which will not be sprayed, thus collecting water, and rusting from within. its a scam. if you dont intend to keep this car for 15-20 years, there is no reason to spend money on this crap. it was a good idea, to apply to certain older vehicles (toyota 4runner & pathfinder comes to mind) which had frame rusting issues. we dont have a frame, so that problem is gone.

the rest of your questions, can be found on the forum.

I rustproofed the car at Ameristar in westland about a month ago
I regret not cleaning the car myself before the rustproof, as I was in a hurry to just get it rustproofed but next time, i'll clean under the hood as well as between the doors as they claim to clean those but they don't do it well enough so dirt is trapped in with the oil they put on your paint, so now I have a dirt/oil concoction which sucks
should I wash it off, or would that invalidate my rustproof? they say after a year, you come back for a touch up, but should I wash it now? it's been a few weeks, he said don't wash your car for the few weeks after rustproofing cuz you want the stuff to set up but it rrained and I went on some dirt roads so i'm worried that mjixed with the oils they put on my undercarriage, should I power wash under the undercarriage to get rid of the dirt or would that invalidate my rustproof?
the question is now about washing the car and the rustproofing and whether or not they clean the car well enough and what if there's still dirt on the car while they apply the rustproofing oil?

also I heard auto 1 which is a chain store does rustproofing but for a little more money than Ameristar
both are better than ziebart, funny thing is, the Ameristar is right next to zieebart, people have told me their cars rotted out after rustproofing at ziebart since they drill holes, but yeahameristar didn't drill holes, but i'm thinking about going to auto1 next time
I stumbled upon the 1st one, the original auto1 started by 2 brothers in Eastpointe. that one wants 349 (Ameristar cost 299) but he stressed to me how meticulous he was and how his was better than ameristars and he doesn't just put oil on the undercarriage, he uses a black compound which is very resistant to salt and dirt
anybody have any experience with Ameristar in westland or autoone in Eastpointe or of their many other locations such as garden city, canton, brighton, etc? Thanks.

Well you've already had it done, so it's kinda pointless to ask now.

Holy crap man ever heard of formatting? This reads like you have ADHD to the max.
Also you just asked all these CVT questions in another thread: "CVT Flulid Change"

Spray the underside of the vehicle thoroughly once a week in the winter, and you will be fine. These vehicles aren't like Jeeps or other body on frame vehicles where a good amount of parts underneath aren't zinc treated and such from the factory. Your Rogue really shouldn't need much in the way of rust proofing.

Oh, and if they used that rubber "rust proofing" crap under your vehicle, remove it... Like ImStricken said, moisture gets under it and gets trapped there between the rubbery crap and the body of the vehicle, and actually causes rust. If you are really worried, get under it and dab a coat of engine oil or naval jelly all over the underside. Boom
