I have some rust appearing next to the sun roof. I was told to take down the lining on the inside before welding. Is there a special way to take it down without tearing it out?

Got any pics of the this rust? If you do, it'll help out a lot to know what we are dealing with here...

If it's just "appearing" like you said, then may not have to weld in a patch panel and instead, you could just grind it out.

But pics would be helpful.

that rust is a pain in the butt to fix. i've tried to fix my rust issue near the sun roof and just cant seem to stop it. i think its due to the sunroof gasket shrinking. and its letting water in and rusting through the bottom of the roof.

if it was me. i would get rid of the sun roof and just weld a new piece of metal right over it and make it look like there wasn't a sun roof there cause i don't have a sun roof on my car and i like it like that

I would never own a 240sx without a sunroof. yeah they say its lighter by a little and a little more stable but I hate it, put a cage in it and call it a day. Its what i'm doing.

Take down the headliner. Its pretty easy and it will give you a better look at what your doing/ need to do. Bubbling is never a fun thing to deal with, might as well get to it while its not that bad. BREAK OUT THAT 60 GRIT YO!!11!

^ yea do what he said lol the liner comes right off pretty much, i think basically unscrew the hardware holding on the mirror, the back plastic piece, and just pull off the trim that goes around the opening.

In my opinion i think my roof is beyond repair. this is really bogus but i have black duck tape covering the rust holes on the roof. I want to cut the skin and have it replaced with one that is rust free.....

trust me man i have worked with metal and rust and the reason why i give this options is to get the problem solve and for having a sun roof to save weight i think wouldn't make a big of a difference
