I'm looking at a 2005 Altima SE-R to potentially buy. Upon inspecting it at the dealer, I saw a fair bit of rust on top of the shock where it attaches to the body of the car. This car's been exposed to Canadian winters where salt is used.

Have you guys seen this type of thing? Does it look like a serious concern? Or was this typical of Altimas from that year?

If this is just surface rust, I'm thinking that oil might prevent further corrosion. Ultimately, I'd like to drive the car for at least 8 years. BTW, I have a 13 year old Maxima SE which runs strong (I love the engine and y-pipe with no pre-cats!).

Any light you can shed on this would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!
