i went to this guy who has a body shop today and he told me to get all of the rust spots out and fix the roof its gonna cost around $600He also said that ill have to get a new windshield because when they take it out, it might crack i have a tiny chip in it and he said that could be a factor which would cost me another $250.

is this a wack deal with the windshield i mean hes said it has a 1% chance of surviving the removal from the truck.

what do you think

Got pics of your rust? If there fixing it properly and completely removing the old metal and welding in new and not just plowin on some bondo Id say thats a decent price depending on how much rust there removing

Ive removed 3 windshields in my life, all 3 were fine. They probably just dont want to take the time to remove it slowly, takes me about 2-3 hours and the help of a friend to carry it off and hold the other side of the wire. You just need to go around it slowly.

Granted youll need a new winshield MOULDING, but thats only like $60

$250 for a windshield is pretty cheap to btw

these are the spots, and thanx for all you input

also in this first pic you can see the line down the center of the windshield what is that for, and will i lose a function if i dont get a factory windshield, due to the lack of that line down the middle?

I think that's a pretty good deal. What will they be doing to the roof?

Ooh yeah. That's gotten pretty nasty. I don't remember it being that bad when I saw your car last year. I think that price is excellent really.

Slick,

250 is a rip off. I got mine for $170 two years ago at a local garage.

I guarantee $170 was not a new windshield. Ive actually never seen a NEW windshield for less than $300

I dont know what the line down the windshield is for, mine has it to

If youre looking to save some pennies, another option might be to just remove the factory windshield seal, grind down that rust as much as possible with the windshield still in place, and just repair what you can, obviously I dont know how deep that rust goes into the metal, it may just be surface bubbling and you can get rid of it all. But it may be deep and corroded all the way through. Only one way to find out

I personally wouldnt be replaceing a windshield that wasnt broken if I didnt HAVE to, but Im a penny pusher lol

The line down the center of your windshield is an antenna wire for AM reception. Pretty useless nowadays; everybody has iPods and HD radio...

thanks fellas.

well now i dont care about the line down the center of the windshield being important, i hate the radio anyway.

WOThow difficult is it to remove the windshield seal what tools would i need and are you free sometime, maybe we could both take a look and decifer how much of a challenge i have ahead of me. I might do the 2 fenders myself and have the guy at the shop just do the roof depending on the difficulty of the job.

By "seal" I meant the rubber moulding around the windshield, depending on how good the factory/last winshield was installed, it may or may not be ruined if you remove it. If you get that seal off easily, you will have no problem seeing how deep the rust goes into the metal, and if its just surface rust, or if its rotted right through

Getting the windshield itself seperated from the car itself is another story, you have to remove your a pillar pillar plastics, get a thin wire under the glass, and just cut it back and forth around the seal until your all the way around and the windshield can be lifted off. Hardest part is just getting the wire under the windshield.

I dont know how they would remove it at a shop, but Ive never broken the glass doing it that way, but Ive also never pulled an infiniti windshield....

I went down to my uncles shop in NY and ended up buying 2 new front fenders + a new front and rear bumper all for about $250. The fenders were a disaster under the flares just covered in rust and falling apart, my rear bumper and front bumper were both cracked from parking in toronto so i just figured ill get new ones since my uncle has such a nice price for me.

Now the windshield was $75 to remove and $75 to put back in or $175 with a new windshield so i bought the new windshield for pretty much $25 because mine had a chip in it anyway.

The rust was terrible the windshield guy said he was surprised that it wasn't leaking on me already. anyway we shaved the roof down and fiberglassed it so it wont rust again.

My 15 year old cousin sprayed the car it was a weekend of work and learning. They also had a magnaflow tip hanging around so i threw that on also.

ill have pics soon

its pretty easy its just a bunch of clips on the top hidden under the grille.

I would suggest just taping paper all around your scratch and spraying it on the truck just make sure you cover everything.

probably not.

its not a local shop.

but ill see how much it would be if shipped, but it might not be a perfect color match because your whip isn't there to match the paint.

Any pics yet? Never seen that much rust on a roof, must be the Canadian winters? Gone thru 2 windshields already and they were pricey.

i worked at a high end body shop and there is no reason that they cant take that windshield out without it breaking, did you get a chip repair? post a pic of the chip,

So the line down the windshield is for AM reception, and the antenna is for FM?I have a few chips in my windshield. They've been repaired but they're still unsightly. I plan on maybe getting a new windshield sometime in the future and was wondering if I should go OEM for that line or just go aftermarket?

Im not sure on this, but i'd say oem is probably better quality and tougher built, so depends on your personal choice etc, but if i had to buy or replace mine, id go with OEM.
