Watch the video posted below to HEAR the squeek

So I started driving the Qx4 as my daily driver again and this brake squeeking is killing me. About 2 weeks ago my front drivers side brake started making an annoying and loud noise as I depress the pedal.

Im having a hard time pinpointing what could fix it. I pulled the wheel off and took the caliper off and noticed ALOT of rust between the 2 caliper piston circles and the backside of the inner pad.

What would cause that?? Could my squeeking be coming from there??

This is the thread I made with a video of the squeek

Hoping someone can help me pinpoint a LITTLE better

You sure you aren't due for new pads? One of the pads has a little finger that makes noise just like that.

The rust is from salty water getting between the piston and pad. The bad backing plate rusts.

Pads still had a good 1/4" of meat left on each side

Pad remaining is trivial, what shape pads are in is important. Pads can disintegrate depending on lifespan gone and conditions run into.

Do a brake overhaul.

Remove pads, caliper, sliders. Inspect pistons, O rings, channels , clean everything, lube what should be lubed and make sure to use the proper grease, 2 kinds needed, look in the manual.

Verify piston/cylinder operation, push piston into cylinder, watch for fluid going back to reservoir and top up after inspecting.

The channels may need cleaning where the rubbers are located, see crap and remove it. It pistons do not mobve in/out easily dismantle and lean up. The backing of your pads is rusted so may the cylinders and piston surfaces. They must be clean, use fine emery and brake fluid, then clean and inspect, no pitting allowed.

After all is clean check your pad surfaces for cracks, very tiny ones, if there replace. With good pads, existing or new reassemble everything both sides.

With wheels off and a helper to listen put the brakes on hard with car raised...any squeaks, no...solved.

Adjust rear brakes and clean.

Now top up brake fluid to max no over fills allowed

Test brakes, test e brake

Test vacuum boost

Test brake peddle, stop, brake brake start car, stop car what is brake peddle doing, check manual for results

What do you mean remove the sliders?? What part of the assembly is a slider?

This creeking noise is quite irritating and I wish I could simple make it go away.

I may end up changing pads and rotors after doing some price searching, locally and on the net.

But Id love to lube this problem away if thats all thats necessary.

Does the video not give it away to you?? Its sounds exactly as it does in the video

It may be more than any grease can remedy. But it can't hurt to find out.
Remove the calipers and pads, making note of crap, worn parts, rust.
Inspect everything.
If you have anti-rattle inserts behind the pads, try removing and re-installing the brakes and see if the noise is gone.
Hang onto the anti rattle inserts.
The rubber parts a bellows that collapses houses the sliders. Remove and inspect them then lube before putting back.

A special grease is recommended but if you examine them as routine even anti-seize can be used but keep it sparse.

I use a bit of grease at the back of my pads instead of the anti-rattle insert, but verify the piston and cylinder are clean. Use brake fluid as a lubricant cleaner.

When you assemble the main caliper bolts should be slightly lubed and anti-seized so they come off easier, but routine PM will make them come apart just as easy.. Remember to tie up the caliper set to work on them without damaging the flex brake hose.
