As the topic says, I got a colleague to hook me up and got my rust on the fenders and side mirrors fixed for free. Let me say that alone is a deal.

Well, I had originally showed the truck to the guy fixing the rust and it was both front fenders and the driver side mirror, all had either bubbling paint or rust showing already and I figured if I went through this winter I'd have a hole through it by summer next year.

The interesting thing to note was that although I had 3 spots to get fixed, the guy who did the repair also went beyond my expectations and took a look at the passenger side mirror. He found rust, really bad behind the mirror and it was very brittle and fixed it too. He said that if I left that, it may have not shown but that I could have been in for a big suprise in the summer next year.

I'll post pics up later today. of the before and after. Plus, I also changed the rear weather stripes as Qxxx4 did recently too.

Check this post out later today for the pictures.

yeah, everyone really needs to look inside their mirrors, where they sit up against the door alot of people have rust forming. For me its just the inner edge, maybe a 1mm area, but for others you can already see it from outside the mirror! keep an eye on it!

your really lucky about the paint, if that guy wants some $$$ ask if he wouldnt mind doing my rear hatch and one fender those are my only rust spots. my one fender isnt near as bad as yours was but i wouldnt mind fixing it before winter!

Yea, they salt the crap out of these roads. During the winter, on a more dryer day the roads are white as can be.

Recently tho, they have been using some sort of liquid mixer at times and salt and sand mixer as well. It is not uncommon to see a Pathy or QX4 here thats rusted, some minor and some ridiculously rusted out.

I wish I could garage the QX4 or ship out to a warmer climate during the winter season. But then again, its nice having the 4wd during the winter.

Wow, I'm thankful I don't live up north. I have been on the beach with my Q, but I've never seen any rust.

I'll look into this for you, I'll see if the guy is willing to fix it for you.

Good thing u took the time to get it fixed, it looks great. Mine was so bad i was going to hafta replace the entire roof! I had a couple random spots as u did as well but the roof is another story...at least it wasn't because of something i did though. How long did it take?

02pathy, he filled it, the rust was soo bad and falling apart. He saved me the pieces and crumbs that came out, I'll take a picture of them pieces if it doesn't get thrown out.

99QX4, it took basically 1 day, not sure how many hours. I dropped my truck to his place on Thursday evening and got it back just about noon on Saturday. Basically, he did the work on Friday. Im glad I got that dealt with before winter because if not I might have had to buy new front fenders and they do not come cheap by any means.

This is what my roof looked like

It looked way worse when the windshield was off, its clean now and mostly fiberglass to prevent future rust but everyone keep there eye on that.

I worked with a colleauge of mine and her dad does body work. She owed me a favour and I had her have her dad fix the rust for me. His shop is in Barrie tho, so i gave him my truck and he drove it all the way there and back. He was nice enough not to charge me a penny.

Unfortunately, my colleauge I worked with lost her job recently due to cut backs.
