So, I was thinking about buying this vert, but the only thing is it has rust above the windshield, it runs almost the entire length of the windshield. I dont think it looks that bad, but it looks like the rust goes thru in a couple small spots. Is this fairly inexpensive to get repaired?

Thanks for the help.

All rust is bad rust is like cancer to a car... if it's what i think it is it could be more trubel the what its worth.

1. if its by the glass you'll need to pull the winsheild off to fix it. Not to bad to fix

2. if its by that top molding it's even harder one i really have no idea how to take that molding off (i tried to take one off a vert i found in a junk yard a long time ago never got it off). if you brake that molding they dont make it any more so good luck finding it.

how much are you getting it for? free or really close to it right.

Unfortunately its under the trim side. It has a few things wrong with it, it a cracked quarter window and it doesnt have reverse. Besides that it has no other rust on the frame or anywhere else.

He wanted a 1K obo I think I could get him to sell it real cheap, it sounds like he just needs to get rid of it for room for a new car. What would be a good asking price for this?

Yeah, I knew about the quarter window.

But you're right its not looking good, maybe he'll let it go for really cheap.

I can do any of the mechanical work the rust is the only thing Im not too knowledgeable about. Do you think I should pick this up?

if you pay between $0.01-$500 I dont think its that bad of a deal. just make sure that you take car of that rust issue ASAP... rust is something that can spread like wild fire and your want to take care of it as soon as the car becomes yours.

IF he ask for a dime more then $500 i wouldn't do it you would just lose money on the car. the money that you will need to put into the car to repair the rust and source out the parts is just to much..

Good Luck, Anthony

Thanks for all the advice.

This vert is in too good condition besides the few probs. just to let it go to waste. I may just save it.

Thanks Brian.

The car sounds like it could be a good cheap beater. Saving it sounds out of the question.

I'd never buy a MN car to restore. Too much rust.

Yeah, MN cars suck because of rust. my hatch is a pos, thats why its my parts car now.

The vert is origanally from FL. only been here for 4 yrs. the undercarraige is in great shape. it may be worth saving.

i had that same issue, mine didnt look so bad when i 1st got it, but when the guy who fixed it got in there and really looked at it, takin all the rubber seals and what not off, it was a nightmare, he was surprised it wasnt leakin like crazy when it rained, i was quoted 500 for worst case, but since i knew the guy he gave me a break for 200, all cases are different, so good luck and get it check out soon for sure b4 it gets worse.

GOT IT,yea its really not a bad fix after all...

just a lil tricky to get apart, i think mine may have been repaired once allready

Taking the rubber weather stripping off the top just required you too lift up and undo some screws that lay hidden beneith it.I took off what little head lining the vert had (sunvisors/a-pillars/dome light etc)then took off the Apillar rubber weather strips witch were glued in (unlike hatches and coupes witch are just pushed in) take the metal windsheild deflectors off the car by removing the 6 silver screws and the Apillar trim all come off. the little rectangular black pieces were attached to the metal Apillar trim in my case.someone was asking about them in a previous thread.

the last step is to remove the numorous 7mm nuts from the metal trim atop the windsheild from several holes below.

im in the process of repairing mine as we speak, ground the rust away... used a little naval jelly, All-Metal filler, Body glaze, and she should be ready for primer later today.

heres a pic of the progress.it was accually ALOT worse than it looked, it was all rust under that trim... but you could only visibly see a little.I may put silicone around those trim holes when i reassemble so no water gets there in the future.
